right on, thats pretty awesome. Never really attempted/thought to do a reese that way. I'll def have to try that soon!

Here's one I processed and reprocessed a few times.

my first jump up tune, all the basses are reeses. the #1 tip i can give in making reeses sound metallic like this is add a very short delay and tune it to a particular note. (in this tune its D)
then whatever note you play in the piano roll, it will always sound like its being played in D because of the delay.
in the second part when the bass sound is switched up all i did was just play higher notes.

Nice tune man. Could you explain what you mean by "tune the delay", do you mean add a delay, bounce it and then repitch it or something else?

basically, when you add a really short delay it sounds like tone being played over the bass, if you tweak the delay time in really small amounts you can change the pitch of that tone. just make it so the tone is playing a particular note.

try it and you'll see what i mean, its kinda hard to explain

so i went to a chase and status show on friday. Went back to my friend's place for an after party and someone was playing this wicked Dnb with awesome reeses. I commented on the awesome reeses, and the guy who was playing the music showed me some of his tunes. Some real noisia/culprate style reeses in his tunes. I expressed to him how impressed I was, and he was very humble about it, making it seem like it wasn't a big deal. meanwhile i'm shitting my pants in amazement.

anywho... i dunno how he made these, but i thought id share anyways.

Soundcloud I gave it a 2 hour go, and got this! What do you guys think? If anyone would like the Ableton patch, I'll post it. I guess even if you don't have some of the plugins, you can still see what order the plugins are in.

So as DJ Stick requested, here is the Ableton file for that reese I posted just above here http://www.mediafire.com/?76dr8mlkx6ytkjk . I think it kind of has a Phace-ish quality to it, pretty sweet! For those of you that can actually open this (ableton people), and the presumably lesser few of you who have all of the plugins I used, you can actually just go into the initial instrument rack and dump other reese basses in there and it's insta-crazy! I tried it with a pack of reese samples from somewhere in the first 10 pages of this thread, and it was awesome.

Side note, I know there is a that little garble/crunch/artifact/BS in the low end somewhere; I think its the L3 Ultramaximizer, I dunno, but I'm sure 5 minutes of hunting for it and you'd be able to get rid of that.

*Edit I'm using a Mac with Ableton 8.2. Aside from the Ableton plugins, you'll need:
Fabfilter Simplon (not a problem if you don't have it, another filter could be put in its place instead, i just really like that one)
Waves L3 Ultramaximizer (if you don't have this, something like Sonnox Inflator or any other maximizer should be ok)
Tone2 Filterbank 3 (....you might need this one. It just has a great notch filter; i had 4 being used, each's cutoff offset a little)
Ableton's Amp (if you are using an older version that doesn't have Amp, you could probably get away with some other amp plugin)

Also just realized there is a sweet little band-splitter in the channel after the patch, grab that too!

i'm pretty damn drunk and tired right meow... honestly, in general i couldn't tell you much more else besides things that have been said here and on DOA's grid :-\ i'll definitely write up a general idea of what i did tomorrow, but everything will vary depending on the first (base/main) reese that you make.

Yes... just wanted a general overview (e.g. you're starting synth & waveforms plus what FX/resampling you may have used)

yeah for sure! i'll throw up a .wav of the initial patch that it was made from. it's a (fairly) simple reese patch that i made in sylenth - it's definitely super powerful, especially with the right effect or two after that vst in the chain ( )

after that though, it gets pretty complicated and tends to never follow an über-specific list of things, but more so moderation, splitting frequencies, and knowing your vst effects (and more importantly, WHAT they're doing to the sound) intimately.

ooh! sends / returns are awesome, as well as making full use of the stereoscopic field - á la panning this can make for a HUGE sound when layered properly

Whoa nice reese man, sounds awesome. Though too me, it sounds like the reese isn't fat enough. Theres plently of sub bass, but it might need be layered with some other mid range bass to make it sound fuller. But other than that, good shit.
