yeah it was in this country also if you follow the dancehall scene, and go to regular clubs like liquid and oceana...been rinsed out since it came out a couple years ago

i wouldnt say that but my idea of a vocal tune is that the vocal and the instrumental should complement each other and have the same vibe. and i don't see how a relatively smooth lovers tune suit a pretty aggressive tear out beat. i understand the concept of ruff lovin and i understand the concept of weh dem a do (coki remix), but i just don't get the concept of that duppy soursap tune. vocal and instrumental aren't complementing each other, they're clashing. don't know how to explain it any better. but each to his own i guess... ;-)
Bruv, Coki thinks different to you, I or anyone. Don't worry so much about the concept behind it, just know that it MERKED the dance that night.

dancehall is quite a niche genre though really, far to niche to be considered "obnoxiously popular" i would have thought, also most people on here i would imagine tend to avoid clubs like oceana like the plague

I'd heard the original track quite a bit, I seem to remember it got quite a bit of radio play!

dancehall is not a niche genre here though? its insanely popular in this country and the states. Its not an obscure tune lol (not trying to be a dick, just trying to help explain the situation)..the tune got major play on MTV as well etc. Obvs it wasn't katy perry, jay-z lady gag popular but popular enough for me to put the vid on my fb and the majority of people will know or at least have heard it before. The vocal did seem out of place to me at first when i first heard duppy soursap but i've grown to like it. Adds alot to the tune

and you can't really comment on whats mainstream if you have no experience of it (to the avoiding oceana comment)...just saying

yeah i hadn't assumed it was big everywhere... or that UK folks ought to know it
just that an ID request on that is a strange, funny sight for an american to see

i full agree with those saying the vocal doesn't suit the tune...

but then i only feel the second 16 from the drop...the rest isn't really for me

however i'm still tryina find an ID on the track before mountain dread march...the hell was that!?

the mellow pad ish kinda riff that came in now n then was soo sick

Yeah innit. Man obviously loves the tunes but that would've pissed me off if I was trying to DJ! Maybe have the decks a bit further away from the barrier next time lol

Well i would bet that 9 out of 10 people i would ask wouldn't know the first thing about dancehall what so ever, never heard any dancehall being played on commercial daytime radio nor seen any being played on television, I am fully aware that it is a very popular genre but i wouldn't neccesarily call it mainstream

i would argue that where i live Metal is more popular with the kids than dancehall but i wouldnt call metal mainstream either, If it aint top 40 pop with the media machine behind it then its not really mainstream IMO as mainstream to me implies heavily media funded exposure across all barriers of locality, class, ethnicity, religion, sexuality and any other defining social factor you can think of

i was at system.

im not denying the bass not sounding good on the tune, or the part i already mentioned that i like sounding good to me...

the vocal sounds unnecessary to me whether its played on the best system in the world or not.

accept not everyone shares the same views or shut up.
