I watched a film called 'Funny Games' the other night.

I think it was one of the most difficult to watch films that I'v ever seen. It's about a family who get terrorised by these two fuck ups. It's a really claustrophobic, dark film, and I was glad to get to the end of it, but then the fact that it pulled me in so much suggests that it is a pretty good film...

Did you watch the original subtitled version or the remake (although they are apparently the same). I found it extremely hard to watch, and the fact that there seemed to be no reason for their torture meant I found it even worse. Apparently it was a critique of violence in the media.

Hidden by the same director is a far more effective and enjoyable film.

I watched the recent remake. Reading about it on Wikipedia, it seems that the remake was indeed done shot for shot, scene for scene. I'm not sure how long the film was, but it felt like it was going to go on forever. I think the lack of reasoning did make it much darker - there was no revenge motive to go anyway towards justifying (in a hollywood sense) their behaviour. I'll have a look for Hidden, is that on a similar kind of vibe? To be honest, I'm not sure if I could watch another film like that for a while, it left me feeling a bit disgusted really.

Hidden has a couple of violent moments but it is more psychological and subtle then Funny Games.

Just about to watch 'Mirrors', the Keifer Sutherland horror movie. Expectations are low but it should be worth the odd scare.

I have that, but i cant find the subs for the non english parts. becoming very annoying and i might just find a dvd copy. Looks good from the parts ive seen trying to understand arabic/french.

Watched Ghost World last night under the influence, made me feel like i was empty and lost. good film but too depressing.

Hi Mary Anne.

More seriously: Brilliant film, a great amalgamation of ideas and imagination.
