UKIP candidate Peter Lello arrested for 'sex assault' on homeless Bulgarian man

UKIP candidate Peter Lello has been held over an accusation of sexual assault on a homeless Bulgarian man.
The 40-year-old, who is gay, was arrested last week after his alleged victim went to police .
Civil servant Mr Lello is running to become mayor in Lewisham, South London, against Duwayne Brooks, the friend of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence.
He was suspended as a underwriter at the Government’s Export Credits Guarantee Department following his arrest. He has been released on bail until next month.
The Metropolitan police said: “Detectives from Lewisham are investigating an allegation of sexual assault.
“The allegations was made to police on Sunday, 11 May.
“The assault is alleged to have taken place either the evening of 2 May or the early hours of 3 May."
Mr Lello could not be contacted.
