People were wearing sparkly stones and shiny metals long before they had a concept of money... men used to wear just as many as women. It's not that women have gained an obsession, it's more likely that men have lost a bit of their flair (chalk another one up to the Great Male Renunciation).

Male Bowerbirds collect debris in their favourite colour to decorate their nest to attract mates... the urge to make yourself stand out in the crowd is perfectly natural behaviour.

What make you say its shit though?
I mean I only started listening to it around the time Bengas albums came out so Im pretty far behind compared to most, but stuff kahn or vivek put out sounds just as good as stuff like mala or coki have etc

I usually find (not saying you, just genralisation) that people that say X genre is shit are either ignorant (you lot clearly arnt) or have spent so long "in" it that theyve ignored other genres.
Theres just as much shit techno as good, House to so its swings and roundabouts.
Both of which came waaaaaaay before dubstep so you have years and years of tunes and sub genres that span on endlessly that will sound "new and fresh" to you as you arnt up to your eyeballs in knowledge of it.

I could be way off though but just my 2 cents (that hopefully makes sense..)
