my beloved laptop is on its last legs...
getting bare Ram errors hard drive clusters and it cant even find a C drive.

My hard drive also went kaput and killed almost 5,000 travel photos consisting of more than 25 states that I backpacked in the summer of 07. It was painful. I did not pick up my camera in between traveling, and when I traveled, didn't really used it much. I relied mainly on my iPhone which went directly to my blog. What was even harder to digest, I had all photos on Flickr and deleted all so I can organize them better. Sigh. . Sorry for your loss. I heard you can get the content back for $$$ (we're talking $1500 here).
