Reasons strength is the fact that there are no vst's. Reason has legendary stabilty and for example I've been using it for 2 years and it's yet to crash on me besides just because you cant use massive and fm8 to make da wobblez and wubz doesn't mean it's an inferior DAW
I'd rather have it crashing on me and giving me the option to use VSTs.. Really. But thats probably mostly because I save every single time I change something (Can't help it.. Habit)
Really though, the fact that you can't use VSTs is so retarded if you ask me.. That's probably the ONLY reason I don't use it.

I know....

But I like working with Massive and Albino 3, not Thor.. And YES I have tried working with both Thor and Maelstrom. I like Maelstrom, not a fan of Thor though.
And that is the ONLY reason I am not using Reason. I can use non of my favorite plug-ins in Reason, but I can use them all in FL.

Thor < Massive anyday.

Massive GUI = well thought out and logical.
Thor GUI = Image (because it's a mess!)

Why are Thors LFO's, ADSR's and filters strewn all over the place?? Horrbile.

Reaper ftw btw! :P

not that hard really is it? they've even added a little arrows so you can follow the signal flow round.

which obviously makes more sense than just laying the damn synth out properly

If you look the arrows to follow the signal flow ull see the lfo's are strategically placed there .... ADSR wise I've got no clue :6:

How is it not laid out properly, what is really that confusing about it? :corntard:

It doesn't say native instruments at the top

Allow me to break down the interface of each synth into the major elements present...

Image

Image

Nothing is confusing about Thor, except the designers choice of placement of just about every single element except the oscillators...!

Another way we could put it:

Massive = simple and straight forward
Image

Thor = usability nightmare

PS, I don't actually use Massive either, I prefer Vember Audio Surge as it doesn't have a tabbed user interface which I find faster to use when patching...

EDIT: Anyway lets keep this thread on topic, Reaper FTW hehe :dunce:

Ableton vs. Reason vs. FL Studio

I'm sure this topic has had a good amount of circulation on the forum, but I just wanted to post my opinion, giving what I like and dislike about each DAW.

Ableton
This is the one that I started messing with the most recently.

Pros:
VST Support
Great built-in plugins
Very flexible.

Cons:
Slow workflow (In my opinion)
Ugly UI
Weird to arrange songs (Again, in my opinion)

Overall:
It's good. Not my preferred DAW. It's got great potential, but I personally am a fan of an easy-to-use UI and a fast workflow. I've heard it's great for mixing, but I'm not into mixing very much.

Rating:
7/10

Reason

Pros:
Amazing built-in instruments and effects
Quick to make sounds and arrange songs.
Extremely stable. Hardly ever crashes.

Cons:
No VST support.
Can't go full screen.
Only exports in WAV.

Overall:
I like Reason. I find that my workflow is very fast, and I am Subtractor's #1 fan. The lack of VST support is a bit of a downfall in my opinion, but you can always use Rewire.

Rating:
8.5/10

FL Studio

Pros:
VST support.
Extremely easy to use.
Beautiful UI.

Cons:
Least stable of the 3.
EATS memory on your CPU.
Built in plugins are decent at best.

Overall:
Like many, I started out with FL Studio (And I still use it occasionally). FL seems to be the bitch among the music producing world, and many consider it to not be a full-fledged DAW. I would like to voice my opinion and say that it is very capable of being a competitive studio program, but it's market is directed towards novices and that guy everyone knows who thinks he makes hot club beatz.

Rating:
7.5/10.

So, based on the ratings, I would say that Reason is my favorite DAW. It's only problem to me is that it doesn't support VST's, but you can use ReWire to get around that. It's 3 synthesizers, two samplers, and two drum machines are all absolutely fantastic. It's a complete studio, and it's not too hard on your wallet.

Feel free to refute my opinions.
