Mostly famous as Wednesday gets them out a lot, but not a bad film when you get past the exploitation type stuff.

Probably already been mentioned but...A Bittersweet Life.
It's a very involving Korean film with lot's of blood and guts.
I've not usually got the patience for most films, but this was tops.

Love and Honour
Third in the samurai 'trilogy' by Yoji Yamada. Brilliant film, on par with the other two, Twilight Samurai and The Hidden Blade. Would love to get a box set of all three films.
Not a typical samurai tale (but Yamada's films never are) so don't expect much in the way of sword fights. This and the other two films are about the social struggles the samurai have to live with, without all he grandeur conveyed in most films. This is about 'close' filming (virtually no wide shots, all mid - close range, really keeps you in touch with the characters), excellent acting, nice subtle humour and simple yet engrossing storytelling.

Andrzej Żuławski - Possession

I'm not sure if any of you knows Żuławski, but his idea of the cinema is that it's not supposed to pretend to be reality, therefore his stuff is exaggerated, theatrical, dialogues pretentious and all in all totally over the top. Which makes it brilliant. And this movie is about love, in the words of author (sorry about the translation, it's weird in Polish as it is):
"Possession is a film about someone, who led by love to one who doesn't understand, wants to understand, and wants to understand one who doesn't understand, therefore has to understand what the other one doesn't understand and in effect one descends to hell, slides into someone else's madness to save the person they love but who is clearly insane"
It's got a beautiful woman, gore, a tentacle monster and great cinematography - what else does one need

Babel tonight, heard some dodgy reviews of it, but also some gushing ones. I really really enjoyed it! The director, Alejandro González Iñárritu, always does the multiple seemingly unrelated strands of narrative later turning out to be linked thing,m and it works really well, though there's far more distance between them in this than in
21 Grams or
Amores Perros. And I must say the deaf mute girl is fucking fantastic, and the boy, Yussef actually. Great performances, mainly from the lesser known actors, rather than Pitt and Blanchett (sounds like a solicitor's company lol)
And Carrie is sick by the way - didn't watch it cos I was going to bed, and now look at me
