With that taken into account we can guess the mans age (in the picture) to be around, let's say, 83 and so was born around 1918. This would have made him 21 when war was declared on Germany. Now, the combination of his happy demeanor, his shirt and the way he's wearing it, his skin tone and the Bell's whisky i'm going to say he is probably Nova Scotian and his hideously deformed hand was a result of an air crash he suffered whilst serving in the RAF's 242 "Canadian" Squadron....
