you are actually completely wrong . he's on some unification shit . i didnt expect anyone on here to really understand that tho , this is just another excuse for everyones latent anti-american feelings to surface without repercussion.

its cool tho . everyone continue
First off I'm American and proud to be one most of the time, so these weren't anti-American feelings....if mr. TESLA is on some unification shit, he has a funny way of trying to do it.

Homeboy hasn't dropped it yet.
had to post this cos he disabled my ability to reply to his retort.

Subject: MORE PROOF the USA STARTED DUBSTEP n WE TAKE IT BACK n 2010!
Body: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOIPylDBI98

BIGGUP to OTTO HAILING FROM MIAMI!!! ROUND MUHFUKIN ONE FIIGHT!!!!!!HAHAHAHA!!!!...the UK droppd alotta fire in the 00's...but in the 10's.....THE US CAPTURED THE MUHFUKIN FLAG!!!!

My reply:

If you think that LFO 2 Filter Cutoff and Half step beats are all there is to dubstep then You are missing the point, seriously. Don't agree with your assertions on this at all. It sounds like some kind of manifest destiny type rhetoric deliberately designed to antagonise and inflame. Tunes like digital Mystikz 'Pathwayz' or Artworks 'Red' have nothing in common with the producers you cite in your original post on this subject. While I'm sure MANY producers the world over cite a variety of US producers and music as an influence, the argument that one country therefore holds sway over an entire global musicology holds no water. This is some Toys in the sandbox shit you are talking man. Let it go.

Cruncs reply:

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BAK IN 2010 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA THERE ARE 300 MILLION people inthe US!!!..Weve created alll the major Genres.....Its all LOVE THOUGH.....I just THINK ITS FUNNY WHEN UK HEADS THINK THEY RULE THE WORLD!!!!...uk scientists once tried to say MAN EVOLVED IN THE UK!!!HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!...Uk dubstep is my fav dubstep right now...but Kids inthe future will overstand that it started in the USA!!...Jamaica is part of the Americas tooo!!...north and south america were once called AMEX by the Moors...who once ruled europe.....We just happened to have created all the 20th century genres etc....Jazz Rock (Dance)Techo Crunk Dubstep Hiphop Funk Disco House EVERRRRRYTHING!!!....the UK makes the subgenres....y'all like classification..

My reply (disallowed)

Once Again, I disagree... Except for the "its all love" point. Its undisputed that genres such as crunk, house techno etc were pioneered by artists resident in the states, its still a wildly inaccurate conjecture to say that dubstep was created there, when the reality is that the U.k pioneered this sound, regardless of what was happening in the U.S at the time or before... as I stated in my O.p, the music you're citing as the foundation of this sound has very little in common with the sound that was associated with dubstep in its beginnings. The Halfstep sound you draw your comparison from originated with Loefah and his tune tune Horror Show... If you want to make a more cogent argument then cite early U.S funk and Rare Groove and Pete Rock era Hip Hop (because those sounds are Loefahs influences), as for your "jamaica is part of the americas.." argument, Jamaica was a British colony initially... the huge influx of jamaican immigrants to the U.k had a significant impact on the musical development there and has continued to impact on U.k Bass music to this point (and probably beyond). You also make the assumption that I'm from the U.k, I'm not. Did the U.S create Folk music? Gagaku? Music concrete? Gamelan? Bagpipes? You were a BRITISH colony initially, You'd have more success arguing that Dubstep came from Africa. Bro, Please....

Wow. What an annoying and illogical individual. This kills the chance I'd ever remotely think about checking out his music.

Also, crunk was a terrible subgenre.

ugh, this thread makes me hate all of you so much .

everyone thinks hiphop is like some kind of beast that took over the radio and mtv and all this shit and lil wayne and motherfuckin 50cent. i dont like those dudes music, but thats not the point.

hiphop is not what the radio tells you or mtv or whatever. hiphop is musical expression. its the 4 elements + knowledge . it's broke people making beautiful music using samples from thoughout history. hiphop is inclusive, not EXclusive. what i'm saying is that "dubstep" is an extension of hiphop, just like jungle was . jungle was originally sample based , breakbeat based , with electronic basslines, computers and organic funk combining. in its early days this is exactly what hiphop was. and if you don't understand how dubstep is clearly an extension of that. then what can i say.

i think tesla was saying that , by understanding that dubstep is an extension of hiphop, and that hiphop originated in the US, that the roots of dubstep are in the US. he's not literally saying that an american dude, in his basement, made the first "dubstep" beat and that it was a halftime wobbler . i think you guys are being twats if that's all you're getting from what dude said .

also, dude posted that rant in a myspace bulletin, so if you didnt like what he said, why the fuck would you post it on here so that everyone could have a jolly old time NOT really having an intelligent discussion on musical lineage

dubstep has crunk inspired elements though don't front. same tempo. lots of claps. similar drum patterns. I don't subscribe to the type of linear reasoning described above but there is a us influence. and vice versa. ideas go back and forth over time and true artists draw inspiration from everything around them. trying to trace the lineage is silly because modern musicians don't follow a straight line or a map.

Shit, and here I was thinking dubstep came from Black Sabbath with their prominent bass and slow weed hazed minimal riffs. This guy has enlightened me.

There's no better way than validating someone else's point for them than attempting to censor their views.

That would be one of the stupidest fucking things I've heard in a while if not.

Not when most of the tunes they write are comprised of weak ass Fisher-Price flows w/ hooks repeated over & over & over.
NY owns when it comes to Hip-Hop. Period.

absolutely ridiculous. ALL music is built on top of what came before.

yes, dubstep has a strong influence from hiphop, as well as dub/reggae, house etc. but where did those genres come from? they are a direct descendant of funk/soul/disco/rock/blues. All of which would never have existed without the jazz/bossanova/big band that came before it. Those genres were of course influenced by classical and traditional music styles from all over the world.

how far back do you want to go? the first music was probably made by early humans in Africa, trying to imitate animal sounds. therefore, dubstep was actually invented by animals.

this guys argument is like saying that Henry Ford invented the Toyota Prius.

hey, in the end it's just a bunch of artists expressing themselves, gleaning influences from the stuff they hear around them. it's probably impossible to pinpoint the exact origin of a certain sound, and in the end who cares? music has been around for thousands of years, and it's very likely that some of the 'cutting edge futuristic beats' are inspired by stuff which is years old and has nothing to do with cranky, blubstep, hypno or whatever term you want to call modern music by!

i'm all for applying labels to genres, as it helps define the music, but in the end it's all music.

Saying something like "Americans invented electricity" would be a great way to convey yourself as a stereotypical 'dumb American'.
