Well, what are we supposed to have achieved by now beyond fights in the playground and channelling our angst into art? It's early days. We haven't left home yet.

World may be mucked up now but its not the end and humanity has FAR too much going for it not to be worth saving. As said we could be around long after earth dies, that says something.

We will sort ourselves out someday... As a species we are still so young, yet so damn clever. Humanity will grow up and then we can all live in relitive harmony.

you know what, i get what all the negative points were saying cos i used to think like that but now i think about it, whats the point? whats the point in being so negative when there is so much other stuff to enjoy, negativity is a massive waste of energy and time and i wish i could avoid ever being consumed by it ever again. obviously this is impossible, but being positive is probably one of the most fundamentally awesome things possible.

yeah dont get me wrong obviously there is a lot of shit wrong with the world, and what humans do about things, but whereas previously i would lock myself in my room with a spliff and the curtains drawn, muttering about how much i hate everything and regretting who i am and the situation i was born into and why everything about the complicated economics of every day life are far too much to have to deal with, i have now realised that actually, thats not getting me anywhere.
i think its probably coincided with the sun coming out in england for the first time i can remember since last september, but thats the way of life. i mean, if humanity wasnt worth saving then that would mean that there are no possible redeeming features for the future of our race, whereas id like to think that in the future ill be able to show my kids some of the pretty cool shit that there is in life, some of the beautiful things both man made and natural, some of the amazing music in the world, and watch them carve their own tiny little notch in the bedpost of the universe. so despite man having a hugely overblown ego which has changed the world dramatically for all life, if it wasnt for that ego we wouldnt be able to understand, appreciate and acknowledge the changes, and try and work out the best course for a future where we can still gleam enjoyment from as much as possible. so i guess there is a upside and a downside to that ego, and im bored of focussing on the down all the time.

What? Get over yourself man, you might have been an amateur study of paleontology/zoology or whatever, but you're looking at this in the wrong way. I showed my son a Youtube clip of a Louis Armstrong solo the other day and he had this GOBSMACKED look on his face like he’d just seen Mount Etna erupt in our backyard.

It's easy to become cynical and jaded as you become aware of the odds stacked against everything you want to achieve but someone like Armstrong proves barriers can be broken. If a man can rise up from slums and whorehouses through a racist, segregated society and use his talent to re-shape the world there’s got to be a bit more to human beings than “a virus”.
