People should just read the thread properly, Plastician pops up about page 2 somewhere sighting Timbaland as an influence and theres numerous posts showing work he did late 90's that could easily have been made '04-ish by dubstep producers

He influenced people for sure though to invent a scene, you'd have the ripple effect, people calling it a 'something', producers making it too, etc, etc.
He didn't invent it - he just did something what was dubstep-esque before it was invented..
Thats probably what he meant... "I was experimenting with that kind of sound" but said it in a timbo 'ive got bare arrogance' way.
See your knickers people, untwist them.

His ego certainly seems to have gone way beyond the bounds of his influence. I wouldn't have thought Horsepower/El-B etc were referencing Timbaland when they started laying down those first gritty tunes way back when....
About 47 secs in
About 1.35 secs in
Well El-b was clearly familiar enough
Not Timbaland (actually Dallas Austin) but thought it possible that Benga's Crunked Up nicked the beat and high drum roll noise from this.

Q: Who does this guy THINK he is, again?
I'm not a fan. Especially not of Americans taking British concepts and palming them off as their own.
Outside of possibly neptunes an dre he's probably the most in demand beat maker in the world. PERIOD.
That's probably who he thinks he is.
I don't think anyone agrees with the notion of Timbaland having much directly to do with dubstep, but lets not act like he's a nobody. Dude is easily one of the most influential producers of the past 20 years.

not overrated at all, anyone who says otherwise is simply ignorant/unfamiliar. check his albums in '97 and '01 with Magoo. his music kind of sucks now, but he's a don.
edit: surely 'Pony' alone was a huuuuuge influence on the UK guys..

not to mention the arsenal of Jay-z tracks he killed it on.
the beat from dirt off your shoulders allows him to be as ignorant as he wants for a while

Stop getting your hip-hop off top 40 radio and you'll figure out fairly quickly hip-hop is alive and well.
