More room for piss poor Indie bands and Auto-tune Hip-Pop though, so it's not all bad.

in january 2006 i was passed the dubstep warz mix, which completely changed the trajectory of my life.
her choice to resign and taken a teaching and mentoring role is inspiring but a huge loss for the global music community, her show really is the best electronic show in the world.
i feel like I've been a grief counselor for the last 2 days. if anything, this opens up loads of other opportunities for m/a in radio and television as her BBC contract was very restrictive.
i tell her often, and i'll say it again: mary anne hobbs you are my john peel.

Fair play to Mary, she made a niche at a fairly conservative radio station and took some risks. I genuinely wish her good fortune and all the best in any future endeavors.
It's a sad state of affairs when there is still no one who can touch the late great John Peel for diversity in music. He really did play whatever he felt like playing.
Of course Mary's show will be greatly missed, but I still yearn for a DJ/host of Peel's calibre to come through. Although some names have been mentioned, none of them can even touch
the great man for innovation.

Good girl and did good for dubstep on the radio but least enjoyable live set I have ever seen
This.
But she had one of the best radio shows that ever touched air waves. Its wack now that shes leaving, I guess were just going to have to get to know the DIVAS OF DUB from Hatcha's site.

Hi,
It's a long time since I haven't posted here so first: hello to everyone.
I just want to say that I don't think it's so sad that Mary Ann is leaving BBC1 'cause she might be thinking it's time for her to go forward, so may she have success in what she decides to do (no doubt). Thanks for all these artists I wouldn't have know without the Breezeblock show (Sunken Foal for example).
Have a nice day people, good luck MAH!
Steph from France (where radio sucks regarding bass music, so don't moan too much here)

truth: MAH changed the course of a lot of people's lives on this message board. Her presence, and her championing of the sound on R1, in allowing it a broader audience, was instrumental in the very creation of this community and its international growth.
Also, MAH's ability to continue to be inspired and excited by the fresh music that comes in, and then pick out the 2 dozen or so that get played each week, is just tremendous. anyone who's ever worked in radio knows how crazy doing that is, and it's easy to get burnt out. R1 has had a ton of really talented folks with that kind of focus... sadly, many have left in the last year or so.
Nothing but a lot of love and respect from Sub Swara land!

I forgot about Gilles Peterson's existence... I guess he's the only one I have left to listen to on Radio 1.
