Nah I'd call that "A standard dubstep night in the States ca.2010" I don't want to have to paint in broad strokes like this and I wish it wasn't true, but all across the states--sad to say its the case, more often than not.

I am not nearly as traveled as you but that is perfectly believable to me. It is that way in Pittsburgh. The dj's here don't even pretend to know/appreciate the history, they don't like the old stuff at all.. or the "chill" stuff because it's chill/downtempo if it doesn't have huge annoying midrange basslines, risers, kick drum rolls and of course the snare on the 3

Indeed it is, the man is a true ambassador and will forever have my respect. Once I turn the big 21 and make it out stateside, hes the first DJ I am going to try and see.

And yeah, ive checked out loads of mixes as I found out early on in my digging into the scene, (just like I try and get people into dubstep to do... Just like I did when I got into dubstep 2 years after its birth...) I soon found out its culture is a lot to do with the dancing and djing which I think is one of the best vibes, ever!

I don't think theres anything with finding out about a genre or era late, as long as you respect & find out about its roots.

It's the same in AZ whenever I play over there. The buzz is always about Skrillex, Dieselboy, Borgore etc etc.

Dieselnuts is a local boy for me. Back in 96/97 we followed him every show he could do no wrong. Things started going downhill in like 2000 tho. Not his sets are a joke for meant least. I think even it's finally worn off too. Not as many people come out. Who wants to hear a mixture of potsnpans and clownstep?

Nobody. Its why D&B is dead. I guess I go to a Dieselboy/PlanetoftheDrums show out of sheer habit/nostalgia. You can’t beat those intros when they turn out the lights and that movie guy is talking… and it namedrops YOUR city… that’s pure showmanship right there… sends chills down you…

I have nothing positive to say and I know I should just keep quite but damn, Juke just looks stupid.
It`s like when you`re a kid going to your first party or something and no-one can dance.
Some dude pipes up how good he can dance and then begins to show off his footwork in pretty much the same way the videos just showed.
Looks like rythmnless Lord of the dance, without kilts and swords.

have u ever hit a legit juke party? or was that a suburban basement underage pepsi and chips reunion?

i feel like juke and jit are both very steady dance movements, they have foundation, styles and establised communities.. hwv, i think ur touching on to something... it their truest forms, those styles are harder to dance then the average house 44 beat... and thus might (not necess.) be less pop-exploitable.

I come from South Africa, we don`t ever see that style of dance except on TV or youtube.
The closest we come to that is deep taxi house and the pansula style of dance.
Similar foot and leg movements with a lot of jumps and ass wiggles.

i'd love to hit a proper juke night, even tho its meant for footworking, i think its brilliant to get a groove on to. mixing it is also really fun to do, splicing in a few hip hop and even jungle numbers, can make a mix really progressive

planning to do exactly that, just did some 808 action with my drumpads. first lesson learnt: HOLY SH*T i really can't hold a rhythm on those pads
