Fair point..
lol no.
not a 'fair point' at all
thats stupid and inherently racist in itself.
'another white man fighting the racism battle' - LOL you think you're Malcolm X or something?!
what a joke
No
What I meant was that no-one has spoken out so much to my knowledge who is of Mexican descent. I don't know how offensive it would be. Being that I'm white. That's all I meant.
I still think they were being dicks and pretty racist. Which is why I went on to say that you should still be able to call someone out if they're being a dick. Which is what Coogan is doing
the mexican consulate complained and it went to the mexican government. that's why the bbc issued an apology.
i'm increasingly not watching top gear bacause there are other car shows that feature cars, more than it being a cult of celebrity about three middle aged men, who live in middle england and moan about things they don't have any real experience of.
i enjoy car porn as much as the next overgrown child, i really do, but it's beginning to get really old - watching them doing the same jokes and the same schtick over and over again.

the bits i lived in were fine. it must be you, rather than huddersfield tbh. some wicked reggae nights, a half decent pirate radio station... i liked it there.
but then belfast folk aren't exactly world renowned for their open acceptance of anything other than themselves i suppose. my step dad seemingly was an exception.

Yeah I was messing about. I do enjoy a bit of the 1:22. A lot of nice people.

I actually really like Top Gear most of the time
Normally I think that Clarkson is just trying to play up to what people expect him to be like and it doesn't really bother me. It doesn't seen serious. He's an idiot but he clearly doesn't mean half the crap he says and is just doing it to be funny or wind people up.
In the whole Mexican thing though. They just come over as assholes. They're not being funny. They're just being racist. It's not clever or anything. I mean fair enough you don't expect Mexican cars to be any good, but that's no reason to just pointlessly blurt out offensive stereo types. Especially Hammond. He's being a dick and just trying to be like Clarkson.
Im a bit late to this thread, but i completely agree.

yeah but as coogan points out, when he does it as partridge, it's about the character being an idiot, and exposing the idiocy. like south park innit. it's satire, and you can do a lot with satire.
top gear isn't a satirical programme, it's a car show.

Speaking of Mexican stereotypes.....is that what Southern Railways are getting at lately?
Re: Steve Coogan on Top Gear's racial stereotyping
Meanwhile experts stressed that describing Mexicans as lazy was in itself lazy and that Hammond should have said a Mexican car would be full of cocaine and you would eventually find bits of it hanging from a bridge.

there's a lot wrong with what top gear do, mainly to do with the fact that its trash tv which is meant to be representative of the UK round the world. Top Gear is the most watched program we export, and its level of intellect is akin to Fox News. basically, would you rather have people think the typical brit is like Jeremy Clarkson or not?
personally i'd rather not be associated with him, despite the fact i know i he's playing up to his character.
