some of them drive better more fun cars

I guess a pretty good analogy is power steering - if you're interested in getting from A to B as easily as possible then you want a bike with gears and a car with power steering. But people who enjoy driving for its own sake sometimes prefer no power steering and people who enjoy cycling for its own sake sometimes prefer fixed gear. In both cases, it makes the feedback loop between your body and the road a bit tighter by taking out some extra machinery.

That is what my cruiser has, but that is not what fixies have.

There is no brake.
The direction you pedal dictates the direction the bicycle moves.
So if you are traveling forward and wish to stop or slow, you remove weight from the rear wheel by leaning forward slightly and resist the forward momentum of the pedals.

If you lean forward enough and stop the pedals from traveling forward altogether, you skid quickly to a stop.
If instead you lean forward slightly and resist the pedals from traveling forward in increments, you slow to a stop.

You can obviously install a front brake for emergencies.
Either way, if the bike is moving, so are the pedals, at all times, no matter the direction.

BM threads are the online equivalent of biting the inside of your mouth. You know it's hurts, but you still can't resist poking it with your tongue.

It's some obscure answer you've never heard of.

And is that a good thing?
that sounds well unsafe like, don't like the idea of breaking an ankle just to stop a bike
well why the fuck would you run into something in the first place? you are not going to just run into a pole to test out a fixies' brakes.
