That is what I like best about JB's statement. In not naming names, he isn't just avoiding a flame war. He's avoiding giving more light to these producers who do not deserve it. These threads serve to bump those artists as much as beatport positioning or anything else.

There are a ton of producers making great, real stuff, right at this moment, and they get hardly any of the publicity they deserve, partially due to this argument being the top of the thread much of the time . How about when the crap stuff becomes a subject of discussion, throw out a shout about a tune by DFRNT, Pacheko, Pistons, or Kuoyah, just off the top of my head.
aha didnt see this thanks mate :)

big up cant wait for those lps :)

and i shall send you some more bits soon

I still can't believe how some ignorant people keep posting the same shit in this thread over and over?
If you think James Blake isn't dubstep (or wasn't at any point in his career), obviously you aren't (weren't) much involved. Of course, that isn't a blame or offence, it can not be helped. But don't get mingled up in discussions like this with your ignorant assumptions and superfluous remarks.

I'd say he's been a lot more involved than the likes of Jakwob or DJ Fresh...

It's the classic case of people defending something that has changed drastically over time. The stuff getting the most exposure in the states is lacking the dubwise/junglist mentality the uk stuff has. It's more akin to electro house (which i'm surprised isn't suffering the same identity crisis being neither electro nor house) I used to get really defensive in the past over brostep. Over it at this point tbh. People are going to like what they like. I cringe when I hear the word "dubstep" these days, because I know about 39 times out of 40 it's going to sound like a poltergeist infested toolshed. Let em have it. It's just a word. The people who got the ball rolling originally are exploring new directions music journalists haven't coined a term for yet.

yeah i really don't get the analogies to "this is like _____'s opinion on (unrelated genre)" .... clearly this guy ins't completely separate and apart from the genre/scene. Quite the opposite.... those types of analogies are clever and funny only when they have at least an ounce of truth to them.

also i cannot understand how anyone is not keen on coki... but alright.

I think what Dubstep really needs is a greater sense of ANARCHY.
It's not designed to be toyed with by those who want to allow capital to rule it's content.
It's better used in the hands of the "ANARCHITECTS" constructing new beats and polyrhythms.
THE CONCEPT OF DUB NEEDS TO BE OPERATIONAL< IF THAT SENTIMENT IS LOST< SO IS THE CAUSE!
IN ONE HAND WE PAY TRIBUTE TO THE OG MASTERS OF THE CRAFT, IN THE OTHER MAKE NEW SOUNDSCAPES THAT BREAK WAVES INTO THE FUTURE, using sounds/techniques that could've only be made in the present!

after going to baselaced at cable on friday and seeing coki, i agree with blake, im not an expert on the scene but u kinda feel its doing the whole electro thing, i.e burying itself in baselines...and losing what originally made it interesting and innovating...

Says the guy that prefers Datsik to Coki. Just sayin'.

Errrm i don't prefer Datsik to Coki! Dno where u got that one from! I'm not keen on either tbh
errr no coki is so over rated!

Datsik wins this one for me
Dunno how to quote the whole thing from another thread, but you get the idea.

Dont mean to dig up the past but if you think Coki is 'so over rated' you're hardly gonna like JB or care what he has to say on the state of the scene.

Well i may have said it but like i said im not keen on either! Plus it doesn't change the fact that i think James Blake is shite!!

One of my favorite things about Dubstep is using NON MUSICAL SOUNDS IN A MUSICAL CONTEXT...
