im just finishing up my okaley filtrex badass analogue filter

http://www.oakleysound.com/filtrex.htm
Image

All done but the pots (knobs). Moog clone ish with a ton of features.

Also very nearly finished my Liquid Hihat + analogue hihat synth with envelope generators and VCAs.

Note to geeks; make sure you put in tantalum capacitors the right way round!

Also been playign around loads with distortion boxes, for my proposed all a nalogue dubstep/dnb/ whatever processor - filtering/bandsplitting processor, distortion, ringmod/bitcrush, and a neat 'one knob compressor' ive found. Hoping to start making a few of these this year... when i get time.

cheers

Not done any tunes in ages...

baller as fuck. That filter is going to be warm buddy, warm... (and that lovely type of moog filter distortion).

And listen Collective, you know where I'm at, and I know you are a major gear whore, if you see some legit tape based recording device pop up, alert me. Straight up not asking for a favor. I know you love gear and you can't stop yourself. I've just got to get tape rolling again. Have this old f'ed up vcr wired up into my patch bay, and it actually does sound good imo, but I've got technical problems with it, and I'm just sick of dealing with it.
get at me on aim or you have my number. i want to talk to you about fidelity and what your trying to get out of it, there are some amazing things around right now and where i am at its super cheap. Let me know.

Oh goodie (followed by some of the gayest clapping you haven't seen)!

Aim it is.

Paradigm, you are out of control bro. Putting us to shame as always. Hey, can you post up some sounds from that filter when you get it completed. Did you have to solder all of that stuff to the board, or was some of it pre done? Also, in 2011 I was supposed to build some type of analog audio device, it didn't happen, so I'm a year behind. I need to get on it. You have any thoughts on a super simple noise maker. Could be pitched or not, could just be crackle and pops. Any thoughts?

Yeah cool man.

Spent a couple of evenings doing all the mechanical stuff; drilling case, getting pots (knobs) to correct length etc. Boring, hate that stuff.

All physically done now, just need to wire up some jacks to see if it works! Scratched rthe back plate drilling tho :corncry: not going to be seen, but still annoying. Doh!

In terms of a noise box, the MFOS WSG is prob a good bet, can buy complete kits. Should be able to hack it to use the filter independently as well.

Fuck you for having the tech skills to do something like this... I sometimes have trouble turning my monitors on. Really though, that's friggin' cool.

Honestly its not that hard.

i couldnt do jack shit about 14 months ago.

You need to learn soldering, which is just practise, practise, practise. Inventing this stuff is the real genius, which im not !

The board was £30, you get a full list of every part you need, and in another pdf you get a list of where to buy it all. You then carefully plonk all the bits in the holes.

Parts were about £70-80, front panel £30 (it was a 'second', slightly scratched), and a case was about £35. So for £150ish (and a few evenings!) a full analogue minimoog VCF clone, with drive, LFO, Env following and generator, a clever way of mixing a onepole and fourpole filter to get 5 poles > bandpass and beyond, CV in to mod freq, gate in to trig envelopes, and some nice lights :)

Worth at least £300 imo, if not more not many around. Obv depends on how good it sounds...

Full pics and sounds this weekend hopefully.

yeah paradigm, gotta say i love what your doing and i have to agree about the quick learning. What seems extremely complex, before you sit down and look at the basics, is really not. Schematics are super simple, and so is the physicality of it. The hardest stuff is dealing with building amps. And advanced effects.

I knew nothing a year ago, and am still learning, but i have built re-amp boxes, headphone amps, distortion boxes, and mod'd countless things. I consider my hand to be relatively weak when it comes to the physicality of it, so if you have any dexterity at all in that side and some what of interest its a completely approachable hobby (mod/diy).

Ok well finished up, all worked first time, yay, after a few mini errors. Other than the LFO depth which doesnt, think its a dodgy pot, the lfo works, leds light up and it triggeres the EG, but no classic dubstep wobble im afraid, :6:

thing is dirty as fuck, brilliantly so. Very complex, still getting my head round how to get the best out of it. Its a filthy fucker tho, proper nice distoriton, and two contantly variable filters to go from 'sort of' 5pole LPF to BPF and loads in between.

Heres a quick play in my first 30 mins or so (mp3 is only 8 mins). Bit rough and reeady but still learning. On x0xb0x, with no knob twiddling on that at all, all the filtering is filtrex. Bit of 909 accompaniment.

did i say it was dirty?

Will be amazing on albino/massive/reaktor, bit of analogue warmth.

pics etc later, sounds are more interesting.

Dont know if this counts as interesting but im using my Midi out to send patterns to my Roland td9 drum module then routing the audio from the module back into my comp to record. Hello natural sounding cymbal patterns :D

went into my attic a few months ago andfound all my old sample tapes. put them in my radio shack recorder and loaded them into my maschine. this song is done with mostly tapes, i sample it lightly pressing the rewind button, really wierd stuff. all my stuff is out of the box though mostly
