I'm really impressed with Impaktor. Think I prefer it on iPad because all the controls are on the same screen.
It can be triggered by anything the iPhone/iPad mic picks up if you change the sensitivity settings. So you could play an old break (or anything really) out of your monitors and get some nice random percussion loops on the go.
It's also kind of velocity sensitive. There's a bass preset that starts to growl real nice if you smash the table hard...
£2.99 well spent.

I also wanted to take the time to tell you, Nowaysj, that regarding Figure: you were right. I finally got it... it's so, so dope as a little groove toy/idea launchpad. You could seriously crank out beats and basslines for days - it's a really good companion app to Nanostudio, Glitchbreaks, any other sample/looper type app. (By the way, they finally released a manual for it...)

DM1 I can't speak for as I don't have it yet; iMaschine is cool - got it recently on sale - but a little limited in that you can't edit what you've laid down. No step editor or time editor makes things tricky. Nice sounds and a few interesting features though.

Been hearing some good things about it, others less flattering. Still prefer my hardware Poly 800. I mean, one oscillator...
Oh yeah!
The $45 DJ app called DJ Player is free for like another day or so... some crazy functionality in this m'fugga.

Have not really dug into it. I really like haveing two synths with step sequencers, step automation, as well as step seqs for 6 synths dedicated to drum sounds.
Best part is the step seqs! For an old flstudio dawg, feels very natural in there.
And for my purposes, mostly sampling out in sp404sx, it is dizzope.

This is free today. Not quite a production app, but suuuuuper cool.
Got this one. Veeery fun, although the screen of the iphone is a bit too small. I imagine it being great on an ipad. It's free too (full version through in app purchase, €3,69)
Now that FL Studios for Android and iOS, i guess its the best you can get(dunno). Also theres this EPIC Reason-styled music maker for Android which is called Caustic. Was my first inspiration for making music. Although I havent tried FL for iOS, i can say its pretty incomplete without fruity on your PC. Then again, Audiotool Sketch souds good.
Id say you can create masterpieces with all good DAWs. The only trouble with above-listed Caustic is that i woudnt recommend it for pro making because the encoder isint good enough. Better for making rough ideas. Also you can salvage some samples from Caustic if you look in the right place.

No. Actually, FLStudio still has a long way to go. Their feature set is nowhere near Nanostudio, though, tbh.

Recently bought the moog filtatron, beatmaker 2, and traktor for 4s. The moog filter is pretty decent, simple filter, beatmaker is cool but really complex and prob more suited for a ipad-still dont understand it properly, like where files exported out of it are going. Traktor app actually works pretty well- still just gimmicky though. Might check out impaktor next.

Impaktor is dope, as is Yellofier, Loopy, Grain Science, TriqTraq, DM1, DrumJam, Glitchbreaks... for high-end synths try PPG Minimapper, Animoog, and Alchemy. Any of these could be used in "real" production (and have been by a lot of people.)

Big stuff in the pipeline for iOS 7 with audio - they're literally trying to integrate DAW architecture into their Core Audio schema. And Android still hasn't done anything about its latency issues.
