Personally, as far as albums go, My Sound - Kromestar is one of the few i still listen too start too finish on a regular basis, it all depends on the sound your into though, but there isn't an individual track on that album i even think about skipping.

This is the Essential 4chan dubstep guide. I didn't make it originally, but I keep it fairly updated. I think it covers pretty much all the bases.
Wow, that made me feel suddenly all nostalgic! And for some of those tunes its only been a few years. Things do feel pretty damn different now

:z:

but if I had just listeneded to it in 2012 I'm not sure whether it's really an essential album. "memories of the future" and "one of us" had an album-feel and "aerial" was quite good. but besides that and baring this in mind

I would say that there are more essential mixes than essential albums in dubstep...
Yeah, mixes from different times in dubstep prob wud give more of an idea of the overall sound..Degenerates just a damn good album that sounds fresh now, has some bangers, has me listening from start to finish as well...I was purely thinkin from my own point of view as it was my introduction into checkin out more dubstep. Forgot about 'Island Noise' as well, loved that shizzle :W:

Yeah thats what I was thinking as well. I'd probably say Afro warrior, skream!, untrue, memories from the future, and the tempa all-stars that were released back in 05/06 too.

As much as I love Degenerate, it doesn't feel like an album to me. Nearly all the tunes are around 6 minutes long and its just wall to wall bangers. Its more like a collection of singles than a true album.

I can think of a lot of great dubstep albums that feel like true albums, but probably the only ones I'd consider completely essential are Skream!, Untrue My Demons and possibly Diary of an Afro Warrior. I guess those were just the first dubstep albums I ever got though so I can't imagine getting into dubstep without them. I reckon the Author album deserves to be looked back on as an essential dubstep album in future too.

jesus so many good albums underrated by you guys!
what about great lengths? ephemeral exhibits? nomad....
good to see some love for boxcutter though.

but tbh the ESSENTIALS of the genre imo must be skream!, london zoo, degenerate, memories of the future and my demons.
maybe cause these were the first albums i had. those combined mapped out dubstep to be the most diverse and creative thing to ever happen to electronic music at that time, and all the other classics (like glyphic or nomad) served to further expand those boundaries in certain directions.

oh and bigup for linking the toasty dubs, i think i lost a couple of them recently
