this. the man is the such a great filmmaker in the truest sense, not just the subjects but his research, the connections he makes and even his editing and music choices are inspired. He works damn hard too, his blog is always fairly fresh with mini essays and films, this one about Counerinsugency is really interesting -

The Jim Al-khalili Shock & Awe (history of electricity) series on BBC4 right now is brilliant too

In the mid eighties fewer than 3% of all people in most of the countries were using cell phones, but if you fast forward to today almost 100% of the people are using cell phones.

By the time they’re 19 or 20 years old, our children will have used the phone for 10 years, and we have no idea what type of risk that’s carrying. Now we live an an ocean of electromagnetic radiation.

It’s all around us now, invisible, but we know it’s there. Every time you lift up your mobile phone you know it’s there. It is very hard to turn the clock back, in fact it is impossible, but we need to be aware of the adverse health effects so that we can have the choice of taking precautions against the exposures.

How we could have possibly thought that putting microwaves to our brain was safe. We just don’t fully understand what we’re doing.

watched this the other day, recommended.

Talks about the Schumann resonance of the planet, and the unseen noise polution and electro-magnetic radiation/microwaves/ health risks we're making for ourselves with all of our growing dependence on mobile phones, wi-fi etc.

sort of stuff that's quite important but we dont give it a second thought because we can't actually often see/hear the harm being done.

The Two Thousand Year Old Computer

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01hlkcq

Doc about a machine found on an ancient greek shipwreck that appears to have been a clockwork machine for really quite accurately predicting the movement of the moon and planets.

Inb4 Aliens/Xenu/Parson did it.

Essential viewing imo.
:Q: Just watched this recently as well. I highly recommend it. Does a good job of looking into and explaining a lot of the sociology behind the War on Drugs

Recently been watching the 'Why Poverty?' documentaries.. looks at numerous different aspects of poverty not just in 3rd world countries. The 2nd one was about Bono & Bob Geldof attempt to use their fame to stop poverty in the 3rd world and looked at what they actually did and their supporters/critics views. What I found interesting was many people had the view that Live Aid was just to boost their profile or for the West to feel good about themselves and feel like they're making a difference when really the large amount donated was quite trivial.. Bono & Geldof acknowledged the problem was a lot bigger and donations were fairly pointless so went to tackle the Government debt issue.. 2 'rock stars' worked this out after organising 1 charity gig. Yet the Vatican continues to just donate and play off that as them doing good. Incredible.

But yeah definitely worth a watch.

This looks quite interesting. The Pirahas people who have a very unique and distinguished way of communicating. No words for colours, no need for numbers, grammar, past or future tense within their communication and their language can be communicated through tone alone it seems when humming or whistling it.

Noam Chomsky features in there too.

Yeah incredible, I always end up putting random shit on when I get in drunk and this is not something to fall asleep to.. wake up 2 hours later hungover and confused to his voice is horrible. You'd think its nice and soothing but its like waking up in a lecture. I've avoided watching the Africa series so I could buy it on blu-ray and watch it one weekend.

Gunna watch that Resonance tonight, cheers for the suggestion d-T-r sounds like my type of documentary!

Yeah I had to watch that for school recently. It's quite eye-opening tbh. Very interesting.
