DON'T CUT DOWN. You'll never give up that way. Fuck nicotine patches, gum.. bullshit.

I gave up 3 years ago. I smoked for 17yrs. Just stop. It's the only way you're gonna do it. I just told myself one day "I don't smoke anymore" and I haven't smoked a cigarette since that day. Now I can't stand the smell of them, people smoking around me gives me a crap throat, and I generally loathe them.

It works. Just don't cut down cos you'll never give up, It's pure willpower you just gotta quit and don't be a pussy and touch em again.

Don't know how else to put this really, but that's basically it. Ask me questions. Oh, you need to snack a lot, that's all.. don't fuck about with gum. If you feel like you need something start eating some biscuits or something. And basically everytime you drink booze you'll need to eat peanuts, crisps whatever.. but it's fine.. you just need to get through the first three weeks. if you can hack three weeks cold turkey, then you need never smoke again.

I do still smoke weed though, but without tobacco. Good luck man, it's really worth it.

I think the fact people can't smoke in public areas must make it easier nowadays. Must have been a right bitch trying to stop smoke pre-ban AND having a social life. Especially for DJ types...

Good luck bredda. Glad there'll be someone else out there to stay in the warm with, while everyone else is getting rained on :)

it took me forever to quit, but when me and a buddy were shipping off for school in 01, we took the opportunity to quit smoking cigs, we just smoked joint after joint until we couldn't smoke anymore, for about a month, till we stopped caring about cigs. not being around all of our friends for a while helped tons

havent smoked since! good luck

I smoked for about 10 years and I quit 5 months ago.
Tips:

-Cold turkey! Cutting down is just spacing out the nicotine doses, you'll stay addicted and eventually start smoking just as much as you originally did because you're tolerance for the drug will increase. If you quit, you have to know to never touch them again.

-The drug is all in your mind. The only withdrawals are the ones you have convinced yourself of. It's painless the most you'll feel is a little emptiness in your stomach that will last about a week and a half.

-Remember that you don't need them. You were doing fine before you started smoking. They are too pointless! You're addicted to a drug that doesn't offer anything in return.

As an artist, I quit because those fuckers were distracting, and they were inhibiting me from performing as well as I could in every facet of my life.
Fuck cigarettes... I loathe them now.

If you really have a hard time read Allen Carr's book. I know several people that have read it and quit successfully.

Right. Some may consider this giving in, but I've decided I may as well finish the tobacco I have (I bought 3kg and only have 1 pouch left), and then quit with my girlfirend as she wants to quit too; I figured it's gonna make things easier if I'm quitting with someone.

But cheers fo the tips everyone :)

Defo gonna do it cold turkey, and I'm hoping to buy a mac and logic soon so that'll give me something (probably very stressful) to fill the gap with. Either that or I'll just fucking eat loads and become obese.

This!

In fact don't only read it if your struggling, read it before you first try to stop. Smoked for 5 years and read this on a recommendation and found it piss easy to stop. (In saying that I did start again after another 5 years but these things happen as your life changes)

Patches and gum and all that are just a fucking con cos the actual physical addiction is an easy one to beat. Once you've passed day 3 its pretty much plain sailing. Its the mental addiction thats the harder part but you just need to remind yourself of the what you gain by being a non-smoker - your health, your pride, the money saved, the lack of stress having to worry bout where your next smoke is coming from.

I stopped again the start of this year just using willpower and a quick scan read through the Allen Carr book and again i'm finding it easy.

Its all about mind control. It's inevitable you'll get pangs at certain times but when you do just dismiss them and move on, don't let yourself dwell on the thought cos that will only make it harder.

i know this is gonna sound like a typicall reply... but if you really want to quit then it will go a really long way if you really want it... Forget all the nicotine gum and shit thats all bullshit another way for pharmaceutical companies to cash in on peoples poor decisions in life.

I've quit for 7 months now and I started smoking when I was 13 and stopped when I turned 20. It took me a whole year of cutting down, on and off etc.. I got to this messed up stage where If I didn't smoke a rolly in the morning I would feel sick for the rest of the day but If I smoked as usual by the end of the day I was feeling really sick from smoking too much lol... just gotta stick with it.. hardest thing for me was I associated it with habits.. waiting for a bus.. waiting for someone.. having a coffee... having a drink... walking somewhere.. gotta slowly filter out the associations.

I gave up recently, I was dreading it, thinking it was gonna be really hard after all the horror stories you hear, it wasn't at all. I find it hard occasionally due to most of my friends being smokers and my girlfriend smoking but I think the fear of quitting is actually harder than the quitting itself.

So, giving up smoking

I'm giving up smoking in a chemist and they test halfway through for carbon monoxide in your lungs to make sure that you are actually giving up.

What I want to know is

1.) Does smoking weed produce carbon monoxide (full weed joints/bongs ect)?

It was gonna be a two parter, but i answered my second question with common sense.

For a detailed look, you can read this, if you want just the numbers, check out erowid

either way, yes, cannabis smoke does contain carbon monoxide. burning most things available to non-scientists will produce carbon monoxide.

Love erowid. Back in my glory days I wouldn't try anything without consulting there first, very informative and what not. ;-)
