I'm surprised no one mentioned Vengeance samples! Their kicks are some of the best I've heard, especially when layered. Truth be told, I've had quite a bit of difficulty with layering (phase cancellation I can't seem to get around no matter how hard I try) which is why I usually end up finding the most suitable and best-quality sample I can and EQ, compress, etc. the hell out of it to make it the best it can be in the mix.

How can I get this kind of synth sound?

It sounds like a simple square with reverb, but I can't get it. I have no idea really how to just explain it, but here are a couple of examples.

At about 2:20

At about 1:19

Any ideas?

Just made soemthing similar in Massive:

Square wave @ -12
Saw wave @ 0
Envelope 4 in a pluck shape
Lowpass with cutoff on a similar pluck shape, but softer from Env. 1
Very slight delay with short time (done outside Massive)
Large Reverb (done outside Massive)

Playing chords/multi octave set of notes helped.

sunny_b_uk wrote: @P-255 not bad not far off, id say add a sharp pitch envelope going down towards the start of that bass to give a punchy transient to the bass, also maybe use more harsh distortion for more impact (tweak the dry/wet of the distortion to your preference)
experiment with having the distortion towards the end and adding random things at the start of the chain (you'll get a completely different sound if you added a flanger towards the start of the chain if there is heavy distortion placed at the end)
there's no set rules but i feel i get better results using short carefully automated chains with a lot of distortion at the end.
last tip, try this on reeses as well since quite a few jump up basses are processed reeses.
Alrighty, I completely replaced my FX rack and added a pitch envelope I got more punch but something doesn't seem quite right.

Anyone know how to make the laser machinegun style bass at 1:27 (its the main bass for the most part in the track but its really clear starting at 1:27)

Anyone know how to make this kind of sound, the sound is the clearest starting at 1:27 (its the main wobbling laser machinegun style bass throughout the song)

just sounds like a reversed ramp lfo on the filter (subtle), and an lfo to amplitude.

Grab a buzz/formant type of FM wave (start with a saw then modulate it with a triangle wave), lowpass it, then add a comb filter and attach an lfo to the lowpass cutoff and the comb filters phase. Finally distort/saturate/eq. Hope this helps you.

Okay sounds good gentleman I will try that and tell you how it goes. BTW is their any way to do this in massive rather than an FM synth. I could do it using Sytrus, Toxic or FM8 but I am not super comfortable with FM so it might be more difficult. And any help is greatly appreciated as always though.

I would bet that it's made in Errorsmith/NI's Razor. There's a preset called "Gentle Wobbler" that sound really, really similar.

It sounds like this:

EDIT: Btw, the thing that really gives it that "lazery" sound is the Comb Notch filter in Razor.

Here it is :) Wasn't that similar, but a bit. Some processing will get you there I think.

How do i get this very special sound?

Hey guys !
I'm looking for a VST effect that would achieve something like you can hear on this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44mqaOtLhbA0
at about 1:25, now the sound i'm looking for is the rising and falling high pitched synth in the background, now it does not sound like pitch change nor like a phaser . . what's that effect called ? kinda feels like a falling star, or whistling . . very intresting.
Thanks in advance !

Sounds like something being pitched down, and also filtered in with some reverb to me?

Any attempts to pitch change something high pitched like that resulted in some robotic and "sharp" sound alteration which sound teribble . . kinda like using pitch bend on the MIDI keyboard when playing a pad . . not a very nice sound . .
This is just an amazing sound . . anyone else want to try and lend a hand ?
