For up and comers, yeah. But if the tune's gonna get released and shared among top DJs in a scene, I think they mostly act as a form of promotion.

should prob take a step back and re-evaluate things if you believe dubs only exist for bragging rights

ur mum

I may be wrong but did the concept not originally come from sound clashes where selectas would try and out do each other with the more exclusive dubplate

Who does Pinch think he is?
Nothing wrong with putting dubplate to say it's unreleased at the moment but saying "Unreleased Exclusive Dubplate" makes you come across as a dick.
Why? Its just highlighting its an exclusive for Compa. Just like the above are exclusives for those labels.

At least its informative, you can assume no other DJs have them yet.
What pinch did was highlight that it's currently a dubplate and is forthcoming on Cold Recordings/ Tectonic.
What Compa did was highlight its unreleased and hes the only one (bar the producer) to have it, if you wanna hear it live you'll have to go see him or the producer. I really don't understand how people are drawing the line at what Pinch done as being okay but Compa steps over the line into being a dick.

What would be the difference in putting "Unreleased Exclusive Dubplate" and "Youngsta/Joe Nice VIP", aside from the obvious the VIP is an alternative version and presumably the original is either out or other DJs have it. Isn't a *name* VIP exactly the same as a dubplate made exclusively for someone?

Anyway, the mix was pretty good.. gutted he didn't play a tune I asked him about after his set the other week, thought it might have been the Cluekid collab but it was just one of his solo bits, definitely sounded like it could have been with Cluekid.. so large.

iirc the hating also arises from the fact that Compa got his initial internet fame, making a 'refix' of Anti War Dub...? (not getting Mt. Eden flaming, but...) and yeah, I did also check it out, but found it mildly dull.

Pinch simply states it's a dubplate in the simplest way possible. The language of "Unreleased Exclusive Dubplate" sounds like bragging which is pretty lame. Stating that something is a dubplate instead of giving a label it's released on in a track-listing already implies that it's unreleased so the whole "unreleased exclusive dubplate" thing sounds excessive. He might not be doing it on purpose but it does sound bad written out like that.

Fair enough it does sound a little excessive.. but to assume hes doing it to be an arrogant prick is excessively judgmental.

The reason people are taking it that way is because of the amount of weird cringeworthy shit he posts online all the time. He could be oblivious to how he sounds but it does rub people up the wrong way when it happens constantly

This, man.

Basically saying, you're such a badman that only you have this. You wanna hear these tunes, you've gotta listen to my mixes, tune into my shows, come see my sets, cos you ain't getting this fire anywhere else.

All about promotion, as it's a job for these people.

It's like writing your CV, and not actually listing any of your achievements or qualifications in case the prospective employer thinks you're bragging.

Bare pussies crying because he does something DJs have been doing forever.
This tune exclusive to me, y'know
what a dickhead

Yeah why do people even care and have such strong opinions on.. a person? It's not like he's gonna change his demeanor once you've whined about him enough.
