yeah over the next year or so I see this continuing and escalating in different cities in response to further Freddie Gray, Michael Brown, etc incidents, but I don't think they'd try all out martial law. I see some sort of federal bill that says "okay let's give cops body cameras" which won't really change anything (Eric garner was murdered on camera and the cop got off, for example) but will temporarily placate people

they won't call it martial law, it'll have a cool sounding name like Freedom Act or something

The distinction between cops and soldiers will degrade. Militarized police packing a lot more than 9mm handguns.

this has and will continue to degrade yeah.
lot of it simply has to do with the crazy amount of military surplus around since the US overspends on defense by an order of magnitude, department of defense literally just gives it away to police departments and says have fun boys

Was ready to take a shit in this thread's mouth, wipe my dick off in its hair and bail, but there, amongst the cross-eyed drooling knuckle draggers... was a human.

This was a great read. David Simon is a pretty perceptive fella.
He talks a bit about some of this in the documentary The House I Live In, which is also highly recommended for those who haven't seen it. It's basically about the drug war and all the consequences it's had - including some of the things that are happening in Baltimore and elsewhere atm.
