Just because someone looks at the available evidence and decides that a particular line of argument is rhubarb does not mean that their mind is closed off. I've read a large amount of conspiracy literature and have come to the decision that it's almost all tosh, that doesn't mean that others aren't entitled to hold those opinions. When those opinions are accompanied by e-mails telling me that 'I'm on their list' though it does lead me to question their validity a little more so.

this is the key point here. most of it is 80% conjecture and hearsay. reading widely allows you to disseminate a much larger width of information and make a truly informed decision for yourself, based on the all the facts presented, rather than a bunch of hype driven aggressively presented regurgitation of the facts and/or events.

just because people refute a set of viewpoints doesn't mean that they're refusing to listen to them. it just means that they've chosen differently.

yeh totally agree. The only "conspiracy" that really makes me me wonder is Dr. David Kelly. Although there is a good bbc documentry that kinda debunks it. Its on google video if anyones interested.

I don't know personally about all of these things but I do know that some of the people researching such matters have looked very seriously into it and can provide documentation to back up their assertions. No doubt there are charlatans and disinformation involved in the fields of fringe knowledge. Of course there are, it stands to reason. But why ridicule those that are thinking about it while at the same time doggedly adhering to views perpetuated by those that have vested interests in manipulating the truth and keeping certain things from being known. Power in our era has traditionally worked largely through secrecy, deception and the control of knowledge. Are you really saying that you trust governments, organised religion, global media, huge corporations and international banking interests to tell you the truth? Do you think these entities are your friends and there for your benefit? It's not always easy speaking out against orthodoxies but that's how scientific and political progress is often made. New realities are first ridiculed, then violently rejected, and finally accepted.

The fact is that there are huge amounts of evidence that the world and what has been happening in it may be very different to the stories we are usually told. It's hard to get the big picture because a lot of things have been obscured and distorted for the longest time, but just because someone can not yet present the full story in a way that makes immediate sense to you does not mean that they are not on to something.

We take an awful lot of things on 'hearsay' in our culture, and a lot of the time we don't even realise it. We trust explanations of events and phenomena as being the 'truth' even though we have little first hand knowledge of them, we believe in things we've never seen, we accept the images of what it is to be 'human' that we are given, we accept that 'history' is true despite the fact that we know it leaves out more than it includes and is nearly always written from the perspective of conquerers. Does this make those that choose to apply alternative maps to reality more or less credulous than the mainstream?

It's funny how Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea wrote Illuminatus! ostensibly lampooning 'conspiracy nuts' by taking the whole thing to what they thought was ludicrous extremes. Later RAW had to admit that a lot of it seemed to be becoming very plausible to him.

Real conspiracies abound, history is the pretty much the history of conspiracy. The truth of events is very often not known at the time they occur. It's not a matter of conjecture at all. Do some reading before you turn yourself into a boorish mouthpiece of the ignorant status quo. Oops, too late.

I do however think that they are saying that the idea that the world is run by Freemasons, that Disney Mouskateers are genetic experiments by the sizan that perform satanic rituals on TV, that Human evolution has been altered by aliens, that AIDS was created by the USA governement might be a tiny bit bollox...
