oh, and by the way... I love death metal but dont like it in dubstep. it drives me crazy!! a dubby track and a hard on death metal grinding track dont mix!!
anyone agree or disagree??
Disagree. Enjoy these things separately but the fusion really appeals to me too. I won't flame you for trying to define 'dubstep', as i see what you're getting at. Bad vibes, etcetera.
My favourite dubstep is often less the dubby, reggae vibes (which can get a bit dozy) and more the rougher, less forgiving sound. It's no new fad - Vex'd are heavily metal influenced, as is Distance. But I suppose this is more of an aesthetic. My favourite tune with direct samples has been Lone Wolf, 'The Plague'... it seems to scratch a twitchy part of my brain, i can't do anything else when it's on!! Haha. A nice electronica/metal mashup album to peep is also Drumcrops, 'Grist'.
Cross pollination and that. MAH used to present the rock show, remember!

never never ever ever ever dat.
best thing about dubstep is i can go 2 a night and expect 2 hear different elements of the same sound
for example i can go to fwd and see
d1 headhunter loefah n-type
same night
different vibes in each set, really exploring 1 avenue rather than picking and choosing different crowd pleasers.
then if u need the crowd pleasers n-type come in and fuck up the whole thing.
best dj's are the ones that have their own kind of set, not an amalgamation of 10 different sets.

Signus is right. It depends what type of tracks you put together. Its a blend of tracks which is the key. To go from one track to another completely different track can be very good.... but it can also be appalling bad. Usually a good link track or sometimes two tracks would blend it better.
If I'm drawing a pencil portrait say... I wont go for a very hard shading to almost nothing because it will just look like a line division between black and white and it would look startlingly bad. However, even a blend of a few millimetres which links the two tones (say if it is a sheen on the persons face) it can make the piece look amazing.
I'm playing a set in Newcastle tonight, and I'm going to be playing allsorts (although mainly of the hard variety... but different tempos and vibes) It'll vary from say a slow Scorn track to say some of mine, Sully's or Reso's breakier tracks, then back to some slower stuff. It just totally depends how the feel for it is. I may not put two tracks back-to-back even if I had the proverbial barge pole, however with the right tune in between, it could be brilliant.
And for the thread.... it's all about trying new sounds in my opinion. The last record Bloodied Blade Record was double kick drums, metal guitars, and grunts from a mate who does the vocals in Coprophagy (grind core death metal band) as well as a dubby breaky track, but the next record (which is out in a few weeks!!

)has hip hop, dubby and heavy elements, all with a similar step and bassy feel.
It's good for variation is experimentation

alot of dubstep djs cant pull it off right though. I just seems odd to hear it in dubstep is all Im really saying, and most times when those tunes comes on... The contrast doesnt come out right and can creep u out enough to make u flinch if ur listening on a ipod or something and just vibing to the tunes.
I have just heard a few mixes on the dubstep fm podcast and heard the dj pull off the darker tunes just right and make them sound good, which alot of them i do like which arent directly ripped from a deathmetal tune. I heard this track, and i dont know who its by..... but, it sounded like darkside drum n bass at a 140 bpm tempo. i thought the tune was a bit odd. I love darkside jungle but i think the new dark approach in dubstep is clashing with darkside jungle & industrial/ breakcore.
dont get me wrong, but maybe if a darkside dnb dj or a breakcore dj pulled it off and was spinning that stuff to connect the scene's it would be great. But to me each genre need's its own identity to some level. I think a guy like bongra or scotch egg can pull of a set with all of the afformentioned genres together in one set!

i think maybe you overestimated what i was going for with that statement. obviously i don't wanna hear tunes of all genres just thrown in willynilly with no rhyme or reason. i want to a hear a good blend of tunes that make sense together and progress naturally, but i also want to hear djs take some chances and not just play one style of dubstep all night.
let's face it, a lot of djs find one niche and tend to stick with it, and THAT is what i was saying needs to not happen. take chances, branch out, and don't get locked into one sub genre of a genre. it's happened before with techno and house and dnb and everything else, and it's tedious and boring.
so again, my point is: take chances and don't get stuck in a corner of your own making.

Thats the normal way of development in an electronic music genre - there will be different styles and not everybody will like all.Remember when it starts in the middle of the 90s that jungle was split into all these subgenres. And in the last 10 years many people was more and more fucked up because the sound changed too much .. and today most of the jungle oldschoolheadz give a shit 4 d&b and have changed to dubstep-in some years maybe it will be the same with dubstep
but fuck this thread anyway

just showed up in a search for something else, and if i knew is dead i would've kept my mouth shot!
negating a negation is a positive action, but i didn't even do that, just i'm expressing my confusion, so many negative threads lately and i'm looking for a reason for that happening...

I dunno, something that I find a bit annoying about negativity around here is that 'negative' threads often seem to be pretty polite and good tempered until someone wades in and says "why don't you go fuck a spongecake you cocknosed shitsucker, the forum doesn't need this sort of negativity..." and only then do you get pages of flaming and ill feelings...
I get a lot more riled by people telling other people what they're not allowed to say than by the fact that not everyone likes the same stuff as me tbh....
