Mockery isn't good, but imitation can be. I'm not talking about people pretending to be something they're not (awight geeeez mockney tools for example), but the way different local dialects and accents use and express with English is fascinating and just because someone is from Southend doesn't mean they're necessarily taking the piss if they use Geordie-isms.stayc wrote:Oh another thing... It's not really a phrase/saying. But I hate when people try to take the piss (and fail) when they hear me say something like "Innit"...
They'll try to immitate me and start saying stuff like "innit bruv blad brap brap pow pow yeee *sticks up gunfingers*" I'd love to shoot the people who think doing this is funny.
Lol oh, Im not sure if you understood. The poor imitation of me would sound nothing like me, it would be their idea of a "london gangsta"stanton wrote:Mockery isn't good, but imitation can be. I might be saying that though because I have a pretty standard middle class accent and my home town of Grimsby doesn't have a particularly interesting accent. The use of English there is first class though - THE CONCISE GRIMMO DICTIONARY
Aha I see. Do you get more and more 'landan' when you get pissed? My girlfriend does, it's aces. I met her in the pub last night and she was all prim and proper, but the time we left (5 glasses of wine later) she was all, 'faaaaaaaaack aaaaaaaff, yor avin a laaarf ain'tcha?" when the bar staff tried to charge us for a £40 bottl eof wine on top of our bill.stayc wrote: Lol oh, Im not sure if you understood. I have quite a posh accent compared to most.. I think it's the South part of London that gets this...
LMAO! I'll leave that for your imagination. Hahastanton wrote:Aha I see. Do you get more and more 'landan' when you get pissed? My girlfriend does, it's aces. You do realize that its 'all of the sudden', right?mnsrfrites wrote:People that use it incorrectlyfrebentos wrote:hahaaha, how does this annoy you?mnsrfrites wrote:'all of a sudden'
i.e.
'Then all of a sudden he opened a packet of crisps'
or
'then all of a sudden i turned the page'
basically when it is used in instances which are anything but sudden
Like, I have never once said "At the end of the day" and shit, you know what Im sayin dude?stanton wrote:SOZ is great, especially when used as a verb when breaking something. "I sozzed your video player trying to pause on a frame of Basic Instinct".
I fucking hate, "At the end of the day", "Know what I'm sayin'" and when "Shit" is used to replace any/all words in a sentence, usually by West coast American's if the posters on here are anything to go by. I actually rather like the last one though as it makes me chuckle somewhat.
