- Voting period of 1 week (just like this one)
- I would like (some people have voiced this, not sure if everyone agrees) smaller sample packs, with less choices. In my opinion that would make the competitions even more competitive because we have less choices and will be using more of the same sounds, and also more beneficial for the people involved because it forces you to really be creative and learn to use your sequencers, samplers, effects, etc.

Just my $0.02
All sounds good. I use the same samples for lots of things in my stuff so smaller packs works with me : )

Agreed, and I've always defended the smaller pack. Ops.
Would add the 3-minute limit so listening is faster, anyway.

Just wondering if Zillion or one of you know where the "drugs work"/"they're everywhere" speech samples + the Latin piano riff came from?

I'm not on my music machine at the moment, but I believe it was one of the CRUSTY STRING samples.. only a very short stab from it with plenty of movement, pitched right down with a whole load of reverb.

:)

I think there are quite a few regular producers on here who did not enter.

We need some incentive to get people to vote.

Np.

I still think you tune had the best structure, flow and feel to it.

The winner had some nice automation but a tune needs more than that for me.

Yeah it's a bit sad there was only like 40 odd votes for this one, not much of an incentive to spend your time writing a beat when you could be doing some originals.
Large ups to Wrexile btw

No castration for going a bit over tho ;)

-----

Edit: I'm making something at the moment (which is going well) which I may use the contents of for the pack, plus a few more choice sounds.
Not sure if I'll submit it as the track or if I'll even submit one at all this time round (I want others who missed out to get in on it this time).
Anyway, I'll have it done for Wed / Thur or something. No rush ;)

It gets creative juices flowing, it's a laugh, it's interesting to hear what people are doing, interesting to see how others are interpreting the sound, I enjoy doing it...
If you don't want to do it, that's fine, other people get a chance to do it.

Yeah, typically they do.

Next one should be going up sometime soon though. Keep checking bak and look for news on DSF contest 11.

re: Why enter these contests...

Can't speak for anyone else of course, but - me and my bro have entered 4 of these and although feedback is minimal to non-existent and we haven't won, it's helped A TON with developing songwriting discipline.

Before the contests, it was always hard to decide on a final arrangement for our tunes simply 'cuz there was no deadline, no incentive to ever stop. Having a deadline snaps things into focus - we've become more and more efficient, to the point that we did this last one (#10) in about 3 hours total.

Ours was track #20 btw... the title had a typo. It should've been "Biden Blues," not "Bidden Blues" - dedicated to our new lousy Vice President/drug war architect. Doesn't matter tho. I'm still very happy with how it came out, and floored at all the tunes that entered this last one. Some talented m'fuggers on this board.

@ Alphacat and nowaysj - True! I just struggle finding any quality beat writing time, I've got a pretty full on job seems to suck most of my time. Sound familiar anyone?
