Here's the result after some experimenting. I definetely think I overdid things, to put it that way. Tried to make the growls fit in a context here.
Soundcloud
Basically, I made a massive patch of 3 wavetables being automated, but I played it an octave lower than what you hear here. I also played it twice as long. Then I automated 3 notches to get that hollowness to it, bit of distortion, and recorded into edison. Threw it in the flp again, and made it play twice as fast, like you hear here. Interesting experiment I have to say. I even made some growls where I played it at 1/4 of this speed, automated a talkbox on it, and sped it up again. Got some cool results
What wavetables have you used? I'm amazed :W:
Digi cook 1 on bend -/+, and AdditiveOctaves on bend -/+. Some LFO's on intensity and wt position and that's the patch. And thank you :U:

EDIT: Shite, that was the first patch. I think I had gentle speech on this one, and the digi cook. Not really sure, didnt save it >.<

Ladies and gentleman

I present you

The best growl I've ever made

It's really close to skrillex

Yeah

There is it

Soundcloud

It sounds a lot better on a 320kbps mp3, not on a shitty 128kbps from soundcloud

It's sounds close to skrillex doesn't it?

Oh, and turn up your volume up a little bit, it sounds shitty if you have your volume down lol
Last bit of advise just broke my ears

THANKS! :u: :u: :u:

So I tried the speeding up a growl and automating a formant filter on it, then speeding it down again to original speed technique.
It worked out kind of good, but when you speed it down you lose the frequencies over about 11kHz. This made me think about big chocolates techique again, and kinda see why we could hear the distortion tail in skrillex's growls. (these tails come after ALOT of distortion and compression)
So, if we begin with a clean throaty sound, automate a WOW Filter or something over it to make it talk, speed it down, distort the fuck out of it, maybe do some notches at the end to make the talking effect even more nuanced (or whatever the fuck it's called), I think we can have cracked the skrillex growls.
Of course, most likely we won't have done it, but it's a damn good technique in my eyes, and I think we could make some crazy fucking growls out of this. Just need to experiment now

Does anybody knows how to get the vowel bass from Deal With It by KTN?

Because it left everyone mind boggled ;)

I've had some luck getting similar sounds to KTN by making a bass growl in FM8 and then using a 2nd, 3rd, 4th (take your pick) Formant wave as an LFO on the Pitch of your Z filter, that came up with some good results.. Although was difficult to work with when making a drop out of it. Looking back I would have resampled my sound, cut it up and worked with it like that.

Hope this helped, more than likely didn't but I don't care my mum still loves me for who I am.

Most of the Deal With It basses sound like either a) processed Saw waves or b) basses made with things like Modern Talking or Deep Throat in Massive on bend+/- mode. Also the yoi's are pretty generic too.

Really loving the 'play it an octave lower then double the speed' method. Never thought I could get such decent basses out of Massive. Used it in a WIP.

Soundcloud

As for talk to me. I always thought it was a vocoder with just a nasty vocal bass underneath mimicking the vocal formants.

I used FL studio's DX10, I kinda remembered it was an FM synth so I thought i'd try to create growls and various sounds with it, so every sound you hear in there (except the drums of course :6: ) are DX10, with a Parametric EQ2 and a bloody overdrive. That's it! I automated peaks in the EQ2 to create movement, and some pitch shifting never hurts. Just took some time to figure it out but i'm happy with the sounds I'm getting. Using FM8 I can create much better growls though, really close to SMANS, I'll try to post it when I have the time :corndance:

You can make very effective drums with FM.

Only eq-ing, no vocoder shit.

This is like the new level of eqing

havent gotten around to making anything yet with this, trying to finish up my EP first.
I'd recommend everyone to watch this video though, I used some of the concepts from this while trying to develop this technique.
