I went there and agree with but most of the releases I was interested in I already owned but their dubstep section wasn't that large. I bought most of my stuff from If Music.

If Music is good. TBH I don't think anywhere in London really has a massive dubstep section anymore, maybe except Rough Trade East & Sister Ray

tbh soho's alright but yh it's not sick
sister ray have some decent older bits sometimes (photek 7 samurai r u mad) phonica, bm and sotu are decent and the music and video is gd when johoosh isn't being selfish
there's a sick place in east ldn or south that i can't remember the name of apparently, ive never been but had moree thann a few recommendations

SOTU is my favourite but i imagine thats because they stock more roots & soul jazz stuff than anywhere else. + good vibes in there more so than the others altho can be cramped.
Sister Rays has VG D&B and decent dubstep (got Amit - No Mercy for £3)
tbh was chatting to the guy in BM & he said this is easily their quietest period of the year release wise (post crimbo/nye lull) + itll pick up at start of feb. Donga in well rounded in brighton said that too. so that could explain ur dissapointment marcus.
Rarekind & its upstairs shops (RK Bass & Well Rounded) are still by far the best rekkid shops ive been in.

I'm not too bothered with new releases since I just order them from Red Eye and never had to worry, i just wanted to have a dig through some older releases. Most of the bits I was interested in I already owned.

maybe herein lies your problem fam, record digging aint about buying bits you already know about, its about listening to stuff you haven't heard of and discovering gems

this, definitely, always quiet until around now, loads of stuff dropping atm again

disagree really, i mean soho probably has the highest density of record shops in the world, theres 6 or 7 new and second hand shops worth going to all within 10 minutes of each other...theres good record shops dotted around elsewhere, theres Kristina records, lucky7 and vinyl pimp around hackney, music video exchange/ honest johns in notting hill... rough trade east/ label markets around brick lane etc but none have the volume/ selections of the soho places combined... even respected regional places like idle hands, picadilly in manc, dongas place in brighton are sick but have relatively low stock
particle-jim wrote:murky21 wrote:where did you go? Phonica is sick imo, best record shop left
really? their dubstep section is piss poor and the staff struck me as being rather stuck up the one time I went there

yeah they aren't a dubstep specialist by any means but anything u cant get in there you will get in BM over the road. maybe you got unlucky with the service but the guys in there generally are sweet, especially if u have been a few times and they get to know your tastes, they have pulled out nuff stuff i havent heard of before based on what i'm buying that has been sick..
to be honest all record shops aren't as good/ there are less of them for a while now after getting beaten for choice from online megastores like boomkat and chemical, its just a standard thing that if big releases get posted up people will get on the pre-order/ order straight away flex from one of those or direct from the labels etc. guess if u really want to make use of a physical record shop trip u need to not order online for a few weeks, then u feel as though u come away with loads when u hit em
if anyone doesn't already know, Dobshizzle has a sick lock up in Camden/ Caledonian road, have a gander on his stock
http://www.discogs.com/seller/Dobshizzle and its worth going round to pick them up as theres a fuck tonne of shit he hasnt listed, always pulls out a load of gems

yeah agree with this don't get why people are complaining situation's waaaay better than bristol where i can go to prime cuts, the music exchange and idle hands and spend ages walking between and not find anything dubstep i wanna buy in any of them. i like idle hands but the dubstep section is really small, it only really stocks the new releases and often sells out really quick on the big ones. if you jump on releases as soon as they hit redeye then obviously you're unlikely to find something you don't have in the shops........

I did have a dig around but a lot of the records I saw I already heard and normally have a good idea what I like but if i started to go regularly people could maybe pick some nice records out for me.

Should've been prod of the year 2013 anyway. Had a more prolific & diverse year than Gantz or Kahn.
I'll agree with ya
