Seriously good film, really tense in parts and some of the shots are breathtaking
Brilliant movie.

My lady and I have just started on a little Spike Lee tip, but we're struggling a bit after only one movie. Is it just us, or is this guy pretty undeserving of his position on the pedestal?

Perhaps it would've gained something being watched 22 years ago when the issues at hand were a bit fresher, but it just felt so hackneyed at almost every moment... dude was clearly very angry indeed, but hadn't really thought about how he was going to make a film from all that anger. It's all over the place... almost every character is unlikable for pretty much the whole movie. There's no "Yeah, that's the dude that's got it figured out" character... they're all bastards in their own little... or not so little... ways.

Hopefully we'll get on a little better with the rest of the boxset... -q-

The plot was pretty simple but made insanely confusing due to the long drawn out singing in absolutely every scene. I don't wanna say its a shit film because its not, I'm just not into all that... gave it a go, wish I'd never bothered.

Its put me off watching Sweeney Todd.
As someone that does not really like musicals atall, sweeny todd is worth atleast one watch and they dont sing every conversation they have.

'Do the Right Thing' is decent.

wow, really?

Didn't even make it all the way through the second one, the first is one is insanely over-rated too.

God Bless America

Man goes on a killing spree against everything that is 'wrong' with America (reality TV brats, religious zealots, right wing talk show hosts, people who talk on their phone during films etc). Satirical comedy, very violent...some of the parody TV slots they have running throughout cut very close to the bone against the Republican party/Westboro Baptist Church.

Written and directed by guy who played Zed in Police Academy, Bobcat Goldthwait.

Cool it's on Netflix so I'm definitely watching this this weekend.

Duck Soup

Brilliant. The lemonade vendor & mirror scenes are absolutely superb. Any scene with Harpo in really.

Watched Donnie Darko last night. One of those films that I wish I could watch again for the first time.

yeah i thought this was really shit, the characters just seemed to be complete author-avatars and the shooting people thing gets old pretty quick. tbh the most interesting bit was the way it explored paedophilia a bit, though i'm not sure that was intentional.

Just watched the new Silent Hill. I don't know why I bothered. Jesus.
The only good thing about it was the music because some of the tracks were taken from the original SH3 soundtrack.

I'll give this film something, was the first time I've ever seriously thought about walking out the cinema. Usually I like slow moving films but I actually felt myself yawning at this. My girlfriend went to the toilet halfway through and actually gave out a big sigh when sitting down again, knowing we had so much longer to sit through.

So yeah... very poor. It kinda picked it up a bit in the second half and to be fair there were a couple of a good bits, but I found myself imagining ways the story line could go, and they were all better than how it turned out.

I would have struggled to give this film a single point, but seeing as though it did improve, I'll get it a (very generous) 4.5/10.

Edit to add I've just found a review on IMDb with someone else completely summing it up for me:
This thing is an absolute mess. The critics have utterly missed the boat on this one. A "thriller"? If you consider long, drawn out exposition and 40 minutes of meanderings and nothingness a "thrill", you've hit the jackpot.

I even noticed much of the audience I saw this with beginning to get restless half way through. My partner fell asleep twice. I almost wanted to leave.

You can tell when a film is losing people when everyone starts adjusting themselves in their seats, and checking to see if anyone else is losing attention like you are.

I'm not really at issue with the story -- there is plenty of material here to produce something worthwhile -- it's the direction that is at issue. Soderbergh is either intentionally trying to put us to sleep or so full of himself at this point he doesn't realize what a lousy director he has become.

Yeah this was fucking amazing, for its over the top hilarity and violence (shotgun baby) and interesting satirical social comment ("It's the same type of freak-show distraction that comes along every time a mighty empire starts collapsing.").
