Watched about half an hour of The Poughkeepsie Tapes last night. Couldn't be fucked with another video camera film so turned it off.
The other video camera film I watched recently (and got through) was VHS - a group of assholes break into an asshole's house and watch some videos of assholes getting murdered before being murdered by some asshole.

I think the longest available cut at present is around 246 minutes. Scorsese is meant to be restoring it in full with the help of Leone's children. There are some legal issues with a few of the scenes apparently.

Sad story. Leone was so heartbroken by the US theatrical cut that he never made another film. I can't stand studio meddling, leave it to the filmmakers. It's like exhibiting a painting but taking some of the colours or brush strokes out; either present the artist's vision or don't present it at all.

Poor sod. I can half-way understand the studio's point of view though - did cinema goers in the early 80's have the patience/bladder for a 4.5hr movie? Do they now?

Yeah, I can see why they did it but it's still a terrible thing to do. Titanic was pretty long, The Lord of The Rings films were 3 hours or so each. I think people would have watched it, the length would definitely have put some people off though.

most of the best movies are 2-3 hours imho

Watching Aishwarya Rai rubbing up against Colin Firth and taking on groups of beardy warriors in combat was about as good as this film got.

Tried watching this last night, got about 20 minutes in before I turned it off. I think I'll try it again when I'm in a more open mood.
