I would prefer to see no actual dubstep.

The Conquering Lion of Judah is an important symbol in most dubstep videos, to establish the sounds connection to Jamaica, its place of origin. The image of the majestic lion resonates strongly with most "dub-steppers", the majority of which are devout rastafarians. The dub-step motto, "music without bass is like life without love, you just can't feel it, seen", is also usually referenced somehow in most dub-step music videos.

Happy to help your project and promote the true dub life! Jah loves you.

Yeah, people call them on it occasionally, but drop some vinyl crackle or a pitched rnb vocal in your tune, and you get bare bods on here saying you're a rip-off.

If people only want entirely original artists in their collection, well, it's gonna be a very small collection.
Yeah fair enough

but in this case volar flex doesn't sound like a unoriginal tune the way some of those ones. Like using the same sort of bass as big shot or whatever. Literally every element both sonically and in terms of the actual composition of the track sounds like it was done to copy Burial in some of his tracks.
Oh yeah, Volor Flex is a special case though. The guy literally says that his albums were a tribute to Burial. Weak argument, but I feel that almost makes him immune from these conversations. Like buying tickets to go and see The Smiths Indeed and moaning they've ripped off The Smiths. Especially on Volor Flex's first album, you can pick the tunes and be like "This tune is a cross of Wounded and Raver.

Unpopular opinion time: What's the point of those Lion Charge records? Just basic dub tunes made by producers famous for dubstep.

Will some people only buy records in another genre if they're produced by people who made/make dubstep? Just like people hyping over some of the bait techno made by people that used to make dubstep/garage when it's shit compared to a mountain of other stuff.

I haven't heard all the Lion Charge stuff but as far as I can tell it still seems to have a very strong dubstep flavour rather than just being straight up dub

Pretty much this also I don't rate 001 that much and would rather have 002 in my collection.

agree on that one some of the lion charge tunes are okay but i think that white lavbel serieis of dub tunes bootlegged into dubstep was a lot more interesting (forgot its name, theres loads of em on discogs)

its like choosing mcdonolds fries over some handcooked chips deep fried by agent himself. especiallly the unity dub release

saying that, i remember that ipmans breaks in some of the tunes are class

Dungeon all sounds the same so fuck that.

the 130 stuff has a huge amount of variation, i wouldn't say any one producers sounds like another. They do pull huge influences of course but its not at the same level as burialers.

Taking inspiration is one thing, Sangam does from burial but does his own thing.

A good producer re-creating somones tunes with slight variations just seems like a waste of time & effort. That's the stuff you do first year producing.

Not talking about everybody in the 130 thread, but there are a lot of people in there just straight ripping old grime tunes and doing nothing that wasn't done to death by 2004.

My main point was that people tend to overlook when a whole group of people utterly rip off 1 or 2 producers, but the vaguest resemblance to Burial will have people all over it.

I think it's because Burial had such a unique sound that people tend to pick up on it more.

Nah those dungeon guys are not fooling anybody either.

Also: most people on here are fans of burial so notice more, nobody really cares about skrillex clones either beyond taking the piss.

Mmm, guess so, just seems a bit more vociferous, almost like people are willing to overlook others (dungeon-y stuff, the UK "techno" shit).

(amongst everybody except the few zealots on here)

dubstep is so dead that it doesn't know it has carked

So defunct that it has been reincarnated & risen from the dead thrice without knowing it,
so fuckin wasted that it has pretended to breathe for 3 years
Gone to heaven & been bored shitless,
gone down to hell and been too bad to stay.

Missed being embodied to feel the shudder,
so inhabited whatever zomby will stand in front of bins.
Couldn't find a dark uninhabited corner to skank
so pretended to enjoy funky bass music.

Dubstep is so dead that all the drugs are wearing off
with the high-hat re-emerging from the silentvoid.
Wobbly legs remember stepping in dogsleep
and our afterworld is bathed in a foggy sunrise.
