from a conversation over here seems that usb2.0 can do 25mb/s. just have to work out whether that's quick enough, do you have any card slots? could put in a firewire card.

do you have a link to the full spec on your machine? that would make it easier to work out.

ever been annoyed you can't adjust the sends for individual channels inside a drum rack seperately?

well use the returns inside the drum track (the R button on the bottom left of the drum rack) then drop in as many utilities as you have global return channels. look at the end of the drum track return channels it has a section named "audio to" it will be set to rack output but you want to change it to whichever global return you want, rename it for continuity and you can even colour code it the same as the global return channel.

Let's say i have a dual-monitor setup running off my osx. Does anyone know if it would be possible to have a seperate Live template up in one screen, and a seperate one with a seperate project in the other.

I have the original project up on my OSX and then what i'm trying to do, is use that project as basically just a big, somewhat ordered sample library. Then i could just drag the samples (which are all in audio, with the exception of one track) on to my seperate monitor with a blank project set up. This way i can just quickly mix all my sounds together into a better arrangement, and really just improve the whole mixdown.

could try just loading up two versions of live and see if it works, you have to change an option in settings though to let you do it.

I could see that working, i only have Live 8 though :?
Is there a max number of audio tracks you can have up at once? I could just make a duplicate track for each one. But that could get messy.....

not sure what you mean by saying only have live 8??? that is the latest ver, well 8.2.2

check manual for things like max tracks.

Could you help me out with opening up a previous version of Live then? I didn't know this was possible.
Thanks for the help, man.

i'm not saying open up a previous version of live, i'm saying open up two instances of live. there is an option in the preferences to let you do this.

I'm working on the biggest track I'v ever made at the moment. Usually CPU is not a issue for me but when I play this track it can run the CPU up to 50-60%.

Will consolidating tracks help relieve this?

probably not, but freezing the tracks might (i assume thats what you meant tho)

also if u can, some of Abletons default plugins have 'quality settings', maybe youre using a reverb at the highest quality setting, so if u can, maybe put it at the lowest setting, same with eq's, but it all depends the 'quality over quantity' thing

hey, im a pretty new producer and im struggling to find synths that sopund any good (i use ableton btw)
Ive noticed alot of artists are using the joy orbisson 'hyph mngo' style synth recently and im basically asking what it is??
Before people say the whole 'dont copy other artists make your own track style tracks' kinda thing, im not going too, i just need pointing in the right direction ;)

Any help finding this style of synth is much appreciated (remember its ableton i use)

freezing will save some resources but ideally you wanna flatten it to audio, if you're worried about keeping the midi save a new version of the file after bouncing.

quick question.
I am laying a two instances of massive:
1) midrange bass which the LFO is automating several parameters, which is all being modulated by the macro 1.
2) sub bass, which the LFO speed is being modulating by macro 1.

It took me forever to get Ableton's automation of macro 1 copied to both synths...

How do I do this quickly?

You just expand the automation, copy it and paste it?

On the bottom right of the track (where you select what you wish to automate), there is a + symbol. Thats how you expand your automation tracks. And that makes it so you are able to copy/paste/duplicate/delete.

Ah, there we go. Thanks.
I forgot about the separate automation lanes...

either you hold ctrl or shift, something like that and you can copy automation across lanes without expanding it. thing is i always found it easier to just expand the lane so i don't know the shortcut key, it's one of the tips on hobotech though

I just (after 3 months of using Ableton) discovered that you can group tracks. My life is better already. I feel so organized
