you will be fine. you might get into a fight or two, but it will be with other white people, not some gun totting mexican drug lord.
some of my mates went there in april, spent the whole holiday having to pay bribes left right and centre, including paying a harbour official to allow them to get off a boat, and paying a security guard to let them back into their hotel.
Also, on the first night, my mate got picked up by some tourist police whilst he was walking back to the hotel, drove to some petrol station miles away, they nicked his cash (about £100 worth) and his camera and kicked him out.
