a human kind love query....
why is it preferable to bond over misery than over joy? like, shouldn't our common love and respect for humanity make us happy when someone else is successful, even if it isn't us? Why should someone else's pain be the salve that soothes us?
Two dubsteppers got married this past weekend. I'm elated. Because its proof that it still happens, that things can actually progress to that level. I've never been married...but I still appreciate that two people have been able to achieve something I haven't.
A different friend is going back to school for her 2nd Masters degree. I'm absolutely amazed and inspired and impressed by her, even though I haven't had the opportunity to go back to school for my Masters. Though definitely envious, I'm happy for her and her ability to do something that positive with her life.
Why are we less accepting of positivity in our lives? Why are people made to feel ashamed for having some modicum of success? Conceit is one thing....but being happy should be encouraged....used to light the way for others and held as examples for still others.
Romantic love is romantic love, either chemical or supernatural in origin. But what about the love we're supposed to have for each other as members of the same species? Why is it more comfortable for us when other people seem to fail in their aspirations? I'm guilty of this too and I'm ashamed of it, because me delighting in someone's failure reveals a very embarrassing reflection when I look at what that means.
Maybe there is a better explanation for it. Something that will assuage the guilt I feel when I feel a random high at watching someone's spirit/body/soul contort in pain or the anger/envy I feel when someone is able to do something that I cannot manage in my own life.

isn't looking for it in the wrong places a way of avoiding the real deal though ? on a subconscious level ?

Yeah i'd agree with that...
Some people are hell bent on self-destruction, they'll happily partake in a relationship that is no good for them.

love is amazing for finding me the strongest person i know.
he is my refuge and my best friend, and i love him so much for just that one thing alone. even if everyone else turns their backs on me....he doesn't and won't...and lucky for me, he's the one somebody that matters most
even if i weren't with him, and just had his friendship, it would be invaluable to me. always listening and really hearing me, not always in agreement but always sweet, and always has my back.
just to have a friend like that means the world to me. and as a friend and a person, i'm so grateful to him for that.
so many times i see love being conditional. its wonderful when i have evidence to the contrary. i wish every person here could have some form of unconditional love in their life, be it from friends or family or partner, because it is so rare and all the more beautiful.
