hey, just wondering.... when buying monitors, say you get some monitors but you just want a bit more sub bass, how do you go about choosing a sub? does it have to match the monitors in any way? would you need an amp for sorting out crossover freqencies and all that?

as far as i'm aware, properly made subs are the amp/crossover themselves, so the signal is given to the monitors from the sub itself

ah great thanks. so does that mean you need matching subs`and monitors. what i mean is could you match up krk's with a genelec subwoofer or something like that?

Yeah im interested in this as well. Was wondering if it was possable to mix and match subs from different brands.

Does the job and well worth the investment. Im not too fussed about them not matching, aslong as i can feel and hear the sub thats all that matters!

I current running my mackies through balanced jacks to my emu 0404 pci card. Im thinking of investing in a sub. Which input would be most suitable on my soundcard to put to the sub in? I guess that the sub would be using a analogue connection but i only have digital inputs left.

I/O Configuration:

Two 1/4" Analog Inputs and Outputs
Optical 24-bit/96kHz S/PDIF In/Out (switchable to AES/EBU)
Coaxial 24-bit/96kHz S/PDIF In/Out (switchable to AES/EBU)
MIDI In/Out

Would i be best investing in a small desk? any adivice appreciated!

i wanna get a sub to go with my Adam A7s. didn't know i had the option of buying a cheaper, non-Adam one. might have to do this! lack of sub is depressing

someone said somewhere on the thread that you'd output your soundcard to the sub and then output the monitors from the sub. at least thats what i made of it hah

I Have a pair of Genelecs 8050 with 7070 sub and it´s just insane..
Pant-creaming combo.

You can mix and match any of the subs mentioned with any other brand of monitors.

What matters is having an adjustable crossover, IMO, Especially if mixing brands.

Soundcard -> Sub -> Monitors (using XLR or 1/4")
