thinking of getting a midi controller with some pads. i was thinking either the akai mpd24 or the m audio trigger finger. The fact that the akai has more knobs and sliders doesnt really bother me, so i was wondering which has better pad quality?

Some people like the pads of one, others like the pads of the other.... I don't really think there's a consensus on which one was better and even if there was, which 'feel' is better is entirely personal. Don't know about construction/stability, though.

I think you're best off just going to a store and hoping they'll carry both and just try to see which pads you like better.

i heard that the mpd has dead areas on the edges of the pads

but they are softer than the trigger finger

trigger finger has harder pads but you can use two fingers on each one easy

i like the harder pads better personally but it depends on what you like

dont forget the korg padkontrol either, people seem to dig that one alot

Korg PadKontrol is brilliant, but I have to say I'm pretty tempted by the Akai APC jobby.... I think my next investment is one of their full length, weighted MIDI keyboards...

Yup, I've heard that. One of Korg's selling points was that the pads are sensitive right to the edge... they do a good job.

im afraid that i might start selling gear to buy one if i watch too many apc vids

i usually start off with fixed velocity and edit it later, so i can see my self producing only with an apc and keyboard

finally left socializing alone long enough to order may apc 40

MPD 24 FTW

I have the MPD32 since last week. It's really worth the money, pads are nice. I had two mpc's (1000 & 2000xl) the pads feel almost the same. Works like a charm.

A friend of mine uses a korg pk. I have to say i really like the feeling of those pads and especially the lights underneathg for visual feedback.

I think it all comes down to what suits your needs best. Go to a store and try a few different ones. Personally i would skip the m audio trigger finger though.. Not that it's bad but i think it looks like a fisherprice pad controller for kids..

i the korg padkontrol was a contender but from what ive seen of it it looks quite bulky. the main reason im craving an mpd24 is just because it says akai on it lol. still looks like im gonna have to get my arse down to shop then mind you i get depressed in gear shops.. i mean you can play on it all, but you cant buy it all

try working in one
the newer versions of the akai mpds and mpks pads are alot closer to the mpc5000 style pads granted earlier versions were a bit stiff
but the korg ones are nice too, the m-audio are stiff as hell
you can find a used korg pad control for a lil more than the nano pads nowadays too

i really like my nanopads

i prefer stepsequencer+mouse.

MPD'S ARE NICE BUT CAN'T SHAKE THE LATENCY... STILL LOVE MY MPC'S!!
