Right Friday night was my first time playing out. Was nervous as hell but managed to get through it without any major hickups, people were saying afterwards how they'd had fun and I even managed to get the crowd moving (best feeling everrrrr)

But I can't help remember about 5 tracks in when I was about to mix the next song in that the deck had been switched off. I know my way round technics so I quickly switched it back on and carried on with the set.

Why would someone deliberately try to fuck up a set? If I hadn't used a pair of these before then that could have really messed things up (it's not obvious where the on switch is, the gf's constantly turning it off because she thinks it's a light switch lol)

Has anything like this happened to anybody else before? are there really people out there who have nothing better to do than try and ruin the dj's and everyone elses fun?

With mk2 models it is easily done by mistake.

If you cue with your left hand and the decks are set up normal (not sideway for scratcher's) then ur hand with be very close to the button.

I use to do it all the time and have even done it while bringing the record in lol.

Was nervous so was using my right hand on the left deck to cue (not something I usually do)

I guess I could have accidently knocked the switch but I have never done it before in my life, was being extra careful too

I would not stand for anyone trying to fuck with the decks/mixer unless it was their rig or they were on next and had to set bits up.

The worst one I had was when I lent my decks to a hip hop DJ who was on before my band ... Got on stage and started singing and stuff then went to scratch in a sample - NOTHING

I was the singer and the DJ so I was trying to fix my shit between verses but I couldnt work out WTF was wrong. Then I remembered the DJ saying

A) Yes
Q) Im left handed by the way

He had unplugged my decks and swapped them over in the mixer and failed to tell - little tosser - took me four songs to work it out!

It was a big gig too - totally ruined by his selfish ways!

I had someone do the exact same thing to me at one of the first parties I played. Someone turned the power switch off when I was grabbing another tune out of my crate. It didn't mess me up at all, but I was feeling the same way as you. It was definitely another dj at the party just being a dick or trying to see how well I knew technics.

I know people that have deliberately tried to "test" other djs by leaving the mixer all messed up right when they get off (IE: changing the cross fader curves, switching to line, etc). If you're relatively new to djing and playing with a mixer you don't know, that can really mess you up. Always best to ask questions about the gear before you get on if you aren't sure about something. Most people are helpful, some just want to make others suffer though.

Yeah i'm hoping it was just a "does this guy know his shit" as opposed to "lets fuck this set up"

wow, people just walk up to the decks get pissed and will pour beer all over them?

Something like that, I'd find it very difficult to not completely snap and smash their head with a bottle. But then I'd remember "I'm infront of many, many people...not the best idea"
