LoDubs Summer to fall 09 update.....
www.lodubs.com
As you may have noticed, there are several new tunes in the player. We will be ramping up for a barrage of releases as soon as the summer holiday season is subscribed to memory. First up will be:
Mensah "Sahara" b/w "Not A Shy Gyal" LODUBS1209015 12"
Now is the summer of our discontent, made glorious desolation, by one Mensah Anderson. A Bristol resident, and, along with Chasing Shadows, in loose cahoots with the confederated tribe of H.E.N.C.H., known for the likes of Jakes, the White boi, and Komonazmuk. In keeping with these contemporaries, Mensah comes forth with a pair of the wobblers to end all wobblers, with a drop so utterly destructive, it has already laid waste to a pair of mids, a sub, and the diodes inside the alternator of one automobile, thus rendering all three inoperable.
While the bass drum, with its distinctive hollow-echo punch, and frequency tweaked bassline are a pair of fiercesome beasts in their own right, what we believe is the the ominous force of distruction within these tunes is an undercurrent of dirty low end dissonance, which only shows its fangs at full amplification, and therefore is akin to the quiet within the eye of a tornado-alley storm, when one hears not the buildings/cars/animals/etc. swirling about, but sees and feels the forces, and just wonders what the other end will bring. "Sahara", the A side of this haunted 12", is in the player.
Face A Face/Ebola "Galash"/"Oh!!"/"Alpha Paw"/"Kaiju" LODUBS-SR-3 12"
Met this guy at our record store (Anthem Records) a couple of years ago. Although He is really well known in the breakcore circles (much like Cardopusher), He bought Italo Disco records at my shop. Then someone told me he was working in this sound, which got me thinking, so I asked him for some stuff, and this is one of four that showed up that will be released as the 3rd 12" on the sub label "Special Request" we did the two Bombaman remix 12"s on. What makes it a special request release is the presence of the French female MC duo known as Face A Face, who in addition to this project have worked with King Cannibal. The remix of their tune "Galash" is in the player.
DJ G "The Gate" B/W "Obsessed" LODUBS1209016 12"
As with Djunya, there are many artists in the Bay area we are just biding our time and waiting for the right material to work with on. One of the most striking things about DJ G's work is his subtle, yet powerful way of creating progression in a track. "Obsessed" which displays these traits perfectly, is in the player, and is the B Side to "The Gate", a overwhelmingly deep, indian music infused builder.
El Rakkas "Seas of Disease" (LV Remix) B/W "I&I" (XI Remix) LODUBS1209017 12"
LV, known for releases on Hyperdub, turns "Seas of Disease" into a punchy, steppy number, while XI takes the fog inherit within "I&I" and transforms it into a blob-like ooze of bass that seems to pan around a room like a ominous spectre. As with the original, each are all about a strange form of subtlety, which is somehow only omnipresent at the loudest of amplification levels. We recommend putting each on, and witnessing the woofer tumult by looking at the speaker at a side view. Might make you a bit worried about your equipment.
MK2 "Apollo's Rain" B/W "Rafters"/"The Money Track" LODUBS1209018 12"
We've had Apollo's rain (which will be called something else once it is released) in the cycle of things to be released for a while, along with a B Side featuring a 6Blocc remix. Then a strange thing happened: 6Blocc kept sending us remixes of the track, all equally genius. By the time we told him to knock it off (only joking. Like we would do that) there where 6 remixes. We couldn't figure out what to do, but then MK2 started sending us amazing tracks too, so we decided we would make a 12" just of his stuff, and in the spirit of the El Rakkas project, do a second release just of the 6blocc remixes. More details on that will appear here down the road, but until then, "Rafters" is in the player for you to check..........
......Now, there are still 12"s from Pacheko, Meesha, and a few others out there to be catalogued. As soon as we have all the info, we will be posting it.
Last track:
Clubroot "The Time is Now" Dark Bass mix
To date, the Clubroot album is doing all we thought it would for the world, and we couldn't be happier. As for future releases, there will be two remix 12"s, containing one track each from the album, one remix each (from artists we will name soon), and one new track, which may be some of the material teased in as part of the mix on Rob Booth's Electronic Explorations mix. We will then release the full length LP, in a truncated tracklisting of 8 tracks. There is so much yet to be heard from Clubroot. We can hardly contain our anticipation over what is hidden, just beyond the horizon...........
