No doubt about it, it's easily one of the coolest, most functional pieces of hardware you can own!!!

I've been having a go of a KaosII for the last month, and seriously can't get enough... and the audience (if they can see what you're doing) love it!!! You can really bust out the moves (A GOOD DJ ALWAYS DANCES TO HIS MUSIC!), and then do these impressive pokey/squiggly things with your hands, and, hey presto! The sounds follow your moves! Honestly, it spins out/impresses ANYONE who's paying attention to your performance... and it WILL impress you to no end!
And yes, I am of the firm opinion that it is as much about the visual performance as the selekta when it comes to REALLY taking people somewhere with music...

word! i bought the first edition kaoss pad years ago through ebay and i'm still satisfied with it. theres no effect device which is more fun to play with but on the other handside i've never tried this alesis airfx...

I have been using the Kaosspad2 for half a year now for both in dj'ing and producing, and i'm ABSOLUTELY loving it.

I got a kp2 a while ago but gave it to a mate. it doesn't do anything particularly special i don;t think, and you can do a lot better stuff with software regarding automation and rerouting and stuff. that's just me though, I'm a bit of a software head.

don;t get me wrong, i think the visual part of perfomring is important, but I think there are better ways to do it than a kaoss pad. each to his own though obviously. ive seen plenty of people tear it up with those things.

All I can say is buy it. I recently sold my K2 because I knew the K3 was coming. From what I've read, I can't wait to get my K3.

Just purchased my KP3 last night. Should arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Looks wicked. But one very silly thing is obvious. Why the f*** is it running/sampling at 48 kHz? The same goes for the newer Pioneer digital DJ mixers (the DJM-800 ie). Everybody knows that each and every (red book standard) CD is sampling at 44.1 kHz. The only reason 48 kHz was introduced was a the pro-offer, whether as 44.1 originally was intended for semi-pro and consumer gear (the DAT machine wasn´t originally intended for pro studio use, but as the compact cassette replacement).
If the KP3 could sample at 48 AND 96 kHz it might make sence, eventhough I´m sure that no club system (nor raver) could tell the difference. Absolutely stupid, but a nice looking machine though.

...i got the kaoss pad entrancer a few months ago...that's both for audio and video together or separate, i think it's quite good to be honest...

don't know about the 3 but a mate had the older one and used it a lot / he was doing breakcore tho..

about the 48 khz..i didnt know it, but i don't know if that's enough to say it's just a nice looking machine...!! you can still do a lot with it...!

I´m sure it can do a lot of amazing stuff. No doubt. But when they have finally intergrated it with computers via USB (and it even supports both AIFF and WAV) then at least an option of either 44.1 or 48 kHz should have been available.

lol...interesting tho...i'll check it today after work...

personally id say no. they genrally have a very distinct sound. as good as most other multi effects tho....

t' sampler on the new one (kaoss3) and kaoss2 is meant to be good tho.

the bug uses like 2 or 3 koass pads i think.

I really like it. The new pad design/look is very cool. Many of the FX are improved. For me the larger memory option is something I plan on taking advantage of.

It is funny you mentioned that about Christmas as this was my Christmas gift to myself.

got one last saturday and still busy exploring the features.
this gadget is absolutely made for having fun.
you can nod your head off using it and so on, but ...

im a bit confused about the 48khz sampling thing.
its a pain in the ass to convert 44,1 samples to 48.
i thought these times are gone ...
even korgs esx only takes samples with 44,1 khz.

the data transmission from pc to kp3 is quiet tricky.

auto-bpm function...
strange feature that i cant make working (even with tap).
it looses the timing after 2-3 bars.
use it for bpm based fx but not for matching beats.
if the rhythm is too off beat better switch it off and
do it manually.

im wondering if it is possible to put own effects and programms
into the kp3. there are effect programs that play a beat and alter
that beat if you move your finger on the pad.
does anybody know, if i can do the same with my own beats?

the printed manual is not good.
read it to know about some functions.
take enough time to find out how it works ...

at the end i dont want to miss it.
it is still great fun.
