Helo My friends.

I'm on change, and bought a macbook pro. I'ts my first Mac Computer at all. So i wanted to ask, if i can record dj sessions whit it direct thru the line in plug, or du i need a Audio interface?

and, is there a free recording software for mac, out of garage band? (i read, that it can record only a hour and mono)

Congrats on your first Mac, the simplicity, stability, and lack of having to downloads service packs, adjust firewall setting, hunt all over for stuff may be confusing at first, but once you get it, you will never go back.

Which one would you propose, i need it anyway, to connect my 24 channel mixer in my studio.


i think, i'm going to buy cubase 5 for mac. but i need time for to get some money. it would bee cool to have a free recording software.

this while i wil doo boot camp to use FL whit all plugins i got. i don't like garageband. :S

yes you will need an interface if you want any kind of decent quality. I bought this and I have advised quite a few others to do the same.

If you need an interface anyway, then go ahead and buy one..

But it isn't necessary - technically you can record through the line-in, which, if you are just getting your feet wet, will be fine for now. It is desirable of course to get a proper audio interface, and yes the quality is of course better from doing so.

yeah, its a difficoult choice for me, i need something compact, and whit alot of plugs. i think now i need 2 different.

cause, i cant't take everytime a damn big aparate whit me (for dj and live sets)..... :S

The macbook onboard soundcard is good and it will do you just fine for your purposes. if it helps, i ditched my M-audio interface, in favour of the macbooks own audio card (1, because M-audio card was something else to lug around and wire up at gigs in the heat of the moment, 2, i couldn't tell the difference). Good or bad for some...it works for me.

Macbooks audiocard is 24/96...the D/A converters are going to be better quality on alot of high end equipment...but unless you intend on recording an orchestra...don't worry about an external interface for your DJ mixes.

so, Audacity and 2x audio splitters from an electrical store so you can have the output from your mixer go to your mac, and also go to your HIfi/monitors with a couple of '3.5mm to phono' cables.

Yeah, my GF got a mac and I immediately installed Reason and Audacity. And I agree that the sound it has is fine.
If you dident get the apple care make sure you get that...I dropped my GF's macbook one day and crashed the HD, sent it in got it back like 5 days later good as new.

I love mac's and dont think I will ever go back to PC's

someone i know almost paid double for geek squad from best buy and they do dick compared to applecare

i tought about it, it's about 300 £ for a macbook pro :S it's pretty expencive. or am i wrong? should i doo something else for security?

I've been obsessed with computers for nearly 14 years and nothing makes me happier than my Macbook Pro. Nothing. It's really quite depressing.

just kidding, I wish I had the money to buy one, traktor scratch works so much better on a macbook

i'm a bit of a design fetishist, and i'd really love to have a mac for obvious reasons... but... WHY DONT FL RUN ON A MAC? (and dont tell me to try and run windows through OS, it uses way too much cpu power..) right now i'm using my old pc (hidden under my desk), connected to my beloved 23" mac cinema screen, and mac (alu) keyboard.. couldnt really cope with the one-button mouse on a pc
