Beggining or starting up,i feel its best to start of simple

i remember watching an ELB video on a magazine and he said if u can make as song bang on drums and another sound,then u got a tune..
so i guess like me,im just doing drums and another sound and another sound in 8 bar grime fashion..

If you only hear drums and one other sound when you listen to burial, then there is something seriously wrong with your ears and/or brain.

my problem is, when i have the drums and "extra sound" down, i get writers block

I do my drums and bass last most of the time due to having that problem for like 8 months, I always start with atmosphere and melodies now because at least for me its easier to hear what the drums "should" sound after you have the atmos/melody in, opposed to trying to hear the melody/atmos once you have a 16 bar loop of drums.
