does anyone have presets or decent tutorials about how to make very gritty, dark, or growling sounds? you know, like the sounds that excision, datsik, cookie monsta ,16 bit,.. are using alot
i'm trying to make these kinda sounds for over 2 months, but i just can't quite figure out how to make them. thanks in advance.

Its all about processing. Find your own combination of distortion, resampling and filtering and you will start coming up with dirty sounds.

i've been 'processing' for 2 months, and it's kinda annoying to sit every day 4 hours in front of my computer and come up with sounds that are not that bad, but also not superb. so i want to see how other producers do their thing, so i can learn something from it and then throw in my own ideas.
edit:

this is my latest track, i think it doesn't sound bad, but i dunno, there is something missing.

sound>process>export>process>export....as many times as you need.
I've heard of people doing this to sounds for a week straight.
I do it when it needs doing.

So record it from your synth to an audio track, then export it out, then import it back in, process, then repeat as many times as necessary?
and would you need to record your whole bassline? or just one note into sampler or something (if im using ableton?)
Thanks

I basically just jam out on the synth, freeze and flatten...send it to a few effects, set up the audio track for resampling. then send to more effects, resample yet again, etc. i guess you don't have to actually export it each time. yeah i use ableton. makes it easy enough.

in ableton you don't need to export
just have the track you wan resampled and some resampling audio tracks
theres lots to do without doing the distortion+distortion+distortion+distortion
go to tomcosm.co.nz he has some vids that will get you started, but you may want to load up the results into drum rack or just cut and paste them in arrangement

I support this thread and would also like to see some tutorials on getting dirty sounds not just the typical advice of "process and process some more"
tutorials (videos usually) have always been the most helpful form of teachin me a new technique in production

Process your sound. Stick bare effects, compression, distortion, eq, filtering, whatever you got lying about, all over it.
Export it down to audio file. Do the same as above and then export. Carry on until you have something sounding truly nasty.

Watch redraven's vid tut on bass, I learned lots from it even though I don't use FL.
