Benn D.J'ing with vinyl for about 7yrs now, but have decided to pick myself up a single Pioneer CDJ200 deck just to upgrade to 3 decks and mainly becuse theirs so many tunes i want which are just impossible to get on vinyl.... but as i know nothing about CDJing i just needed to know:

*The best sites to download the tunes? (legally of course)
*Should i be getting 320's or WAV's (whats the differance?)
*Is their a standard of C.D i should be burning onto or will things like a blank tesco CD-R be okay??
*whats the best way to organise the music once uve burnt it off?? i feel after downloading so many tracks i'll lose whats on what c.d
*is their a specialist burning program i should use to maintain quality or will anything do?

Sorry bout all the Q's ut any help appreciated.

*beatport.com is the only one i know, theres probably more though
*yeah 320's are generally the standard it seems
* dont know about this question, i wouldnt mind finding out myself
* a mate of mine has a cd puch thing and just writes the track names on a peice of paper and slots it in with the cd. could also have a title for each cd so you dont lose track
* no idea about this question. i wouldnt imagine so but i could be wrong

For organising CD pen and a CD case :W:

For burning, just make sure it don't convert your files to a lesser quality when burning.. Try software like Nero.

* Beatport, track it down, boomkat, juno

* Wav's are the best quality but cost more and take up more space caus bigger file size, go 320's if down the mp3 route no less bitrate

* Your gonna be burning a lot of cd's so as Legenary said as long as your not converting to a lesser quality dont see why cant use cheap cds

* Best way for you to remember the tune! write stick a pic on it anything really.

* Use a CD wallet, my advice is divise a system burn tunes with - Same artist, Same key, same style etc. Be quicker to mix etc.

Safe :)

Burn two of every disc, otherwise you'll be unable to mix between tunes on the same CD.

Go for WAVs only, I'd say. You won't notice the difference when it's just you mixin' those 320's, but when you're on after someone that's playing vinyl you'll be beating yourself over the head for not going for maximum possible sound quality.

Juno's been really good for me, big collection, just €2,50 a track and really fast and reliable.

Good sites are: Bleep, Beatport, Juno, Boomkat, Addictech

FLAC is generally the best option for downloads, though it's debatable whether there is any audible difference between LAME 320 and FLAC.

Getting a timecode setup might be cheaper way to play out mp3s

Depends if he has a laptop or not tho
True
Even then you could get something that would work for strictly mixing for fairly cheap

*The best sites to download the tunes? (legally of course)

digital-tunes, juno, boomkat, beatport

*Should i be getting 320's or WAV's (whats the differance?)

WAV's sound a whole hell of a lot better if you ask me, and are usually the same price.

*Is their a standard of C.D i should be burning onto or will things like a blank tesco CD-R be okay??

i use memorex cuz i can get em cheap, i usually

*whats the best way to organise the music once uve burnt it off?? i feel after downloading so many tracks i'll lose whats on what c.d

i burn about 5 discs everytime i play out and make 2 copies of each cd(so thats 10), i find it best to have a theme to each cd, or multiple themes, it just makes things easier to find what vibe/sound you are looking for. like, i will put all my 2steppy garage tracks on a seperate cd from the halfstep bangers etc. i also think its good to group artists and releases together aswell. depending on how well i take care of the discs at the show, i will use a set maybe twice before discarding them from the cd book.

i label them with a number and a word like "Bob's #3" and then print out the tracklists and stick em in the book next to the cd.

*is their a specialist burning program i should use to maintain quality or will anything do?

i use itunes.

I don't have a cdj deck and havn't used it live but I have my collection all ready.

-CD case that holds about 100 ish c.d's
-I bought a tub of 100 verbatim CD's for about £12 (good quality too)
-I use a sharpie pen to note the artist and tracks on the c.d, sharpie aren't designed to be used to write on c.d's but I have had no problems with it.
-On each C.D I treat it like a vinyl release, so 2/3 tracks on each
-I use Nero to bounce, I will use either 320/wav, I may have used 192 on 1 or 2 but no less than that

i wouldnt suggest trying to keep a whole collection on cd, mine always end up skipping and there is nothing worse than having that happen. the only time its ever happened to me when i was playing was a house party. not a good look.

burning new cds for each gig or 2 is the way to go IMO. altho it would be nice to have an entire collection.
