5-HTP, kava kava, warm milk (although this is similar to the aforementioned 5-HTP - warming the milk makes the tryptophan in it more bioavailable), and chamomille tea can relax you naturally. Some people get good results from melatonin as well, although for most people it'll knock you out for a few hours, then the sympathetic nervous system intervenes with a dopamine surge which makes you more awake than you were before taking it.

Try not to do anything too mentally intensive for a couple of hours prior to bed. Don't produce, play video games, attempt to disprove Hawking's theories on subatomic particles, etc.

Also, make your bed as comfortable as possible and only use it for rest. In other words, make your body associate bed with sleep and nothing else. You'd be surprised how much of insomnia is force of habit.

If all else fails, wank.

Seems to be a common thread with creative types anyway; maybe what keeps your mind creative, also keeps it too active to sleep.

yeah serious insomnia here too.

don't really enjoy smoking green anymore- cos of the paranoia and lethargy and general responsiblity/life averting effect it has on me- but without it i go to bed, spend six hrs convincing myself all hope is lost then get up, have a coffee and get on with the ardous task of being unemployed. This process then repeats til i get some more smoke.

Tried that htp-5 but found its relaxent effects are weak compared to 3/4 stogies. Been given diazipam by the doc which didn't help either, one of my mates swears by valium but dunno if i really want to get into that.

Some people can't rid of insomnia. It's there for life..People like Thatcher thrive off a lack of sleep. It is claimed she only slept three hours a night when she was the premier. She's sstill a twat though.
I find i get the best idea's when i'm led in bed unable to sleep. So there are advantages.

Good look though mate.
I reckon you should wank ye self silly

make sure your room is dark. the deepest part of your sleep cycle can be affected by room light ( ie..leaving a tv flickering in your face as you sleep is a bad idea). i used to have no curtains in my room, and since i've changed to dark curtains, i've never slept better.

you can try using the wave sounds or cricket sounds to get you to sleep. one of my ex's used to have a alarm clock that played waves for few hours at night, that then clicked off after a couple hours.

try many tricks and eventually you'll find something that will work.
melatonin is another thing you can take.

Gets me to sleep after too many "little helpers". Or there's always skag. Valium's far better taken in a recreational sense anyway, often nice washed down with a bottle of Tudor Rose, binner-style
