that movement to get it recognised as a religion on the 2001 census was hella lame imo. 400,000 david brent-style office jokers mobilising to action=a dangerous precedent.

i mean not really, it's harmless fun, but i did vaguely resent the fact that that was what direct action had come to. govt were spot on to completely ignore them. the appropriate attitude to nerds ;)

Absolute dickwits. I get the feeling that they're supposed to be taking the piss - but then again I also know far too many people that take sci-fi too seriously including one who said that she'd like to go into suspended animation and wake up in the future - when I mentioned that all her friends would be dead, she didn't flinch. I then realised that she didn't have any.

It's quite tempting to join up in a way - if it did get accepted as a significant religion, it might mean that they get invited along to those all-faith meetings which could be quite amusing. They all seem to love fantastical stories so they should get along like a church on fire

nooooo. scientology is the discerning joker's choice this season, trust

i think that its laughable, but at least it makes me laugh, which is better than making me want to cry, as religion mostly does

also, i think it raises important questions about the nature of religion. but also difficult theoretical questions about the way the state should act regarding religion

"The couple claim to be part of the UK's fourth largest religious group, after 400,000 people recorded their faith as "Jedi" in the 2001 Census."
It wasn't ignored, it was and is officially recorded as the UK's 4th largest religion:

Census officials bowed to pressure after a massive internet campaign to include Jedi on the list of chosen religions.
