that movement to get it recognised as a religion on the 2001 census was hella lame imo. 400,000 david brent-style office jokers mobilising to action=a dangerous precedent.
i mean not really, it's harmless fun, but i did vaguely resent the fact that that was what direct action had come to. govt were spot on to completely ignore them. the appropriate attitude to nerds

Absolute dickwits. I get the feeling that they're supposed to be taking the piss - but then again I also know far too many people that take sci-fi too seriously including one who said that she'd like to go into suspended animation and wake up in the future - when I mentioned that all her friends would be dead, she didn't flinch. I then realised that she didn't have any.
It's quite tempting to join up in a way - if it did get accepted as a significant religion, it might mean that they get invited along to those all-faith meetings which could be quite amusing. They all seem to love fantastical stories so they should get along like a church on fire

i think that its laughable, but at least it makes me laugh, which is better than making me want to cry, as religion mostly does
also, i think it raises important questions about the nature of religion. but also difficult theoretical questions about the way the state should act regarding religion
