Some information on Bristol please...

I currently live in Glasgow and go to uni here, but for various reasons am considering transferring to a different uni/city. One place that I'm interested in is Bristol, and I'm planning on going down for a weekend on 23rd-25th October, to see what I think of the place. Just wondering if anyone can give me a bit of info.
What areas of Bristol are where most student flats, etc are? so i can have a look around there.
Where else should I look about?
What two clubs should I go to on the Friday & Saturday? (dubstep/garage obv

)
Any good/cheapish b&b in town near to the centre/clubs?
Positives/negatives about living in Bristol?!
And anything else you can think of!
Would be much appreciated

Bristol is amazing!
I moved here two years ago and am so so so glad I did
When you're down you need to check out stokes croft (just north of the centre), that's my favourite part of bristol and where a lot of the best clubs are. Obviously check out the city centre.
Good places to live that aren't too studenty are montepelier / st andrews / cotham kind've places, they are all a bit further up from town past stokes croft, really nice vibes.
I don't know what nights are on that weekend but see wha'gwarn at the Black Swan (easton) Lakota (stokes croft) and like Lab and Timbuk2 in town.
In fact just give Rooted Records a visit (glouscester road) and pick up a Don't Panic pack and have a flick through the flyers
I love bristol, there's such a cool feeling about the place, well chilled out, so much sick music

bristol is indeed amazing, amazing and varied selections of nights to go to, awesome atmosphere, for more student orientated bits of town i would also recommend cotham (good pubs), gloucester road (vibes), also definately hit up rooted, cultural epicentre of the bristol music scene, check out hijak to see whats on the weekend you're coming down, good luck with the search man, hope you find a home here

Bristol is an amazing place to live. I came here 6 years ago and haven't left. Can't see me going anywhere else either (apart from somewhere hot).
If you're coming down on the 24th, come to Motion (IMO best club in Bristol) which is a massive skate park that gets converted into a big warehouse style rave.
We've got Komonazmuk, N-Type, Mumdance, Beardyman, JFB, Friction and shit loads more going on. Full details here:

Stokes croft is essentially 2 miles of rather good pubs and clubs, and Lakota is situated just off the main road, outfitted with some rather lush funktion 1. The black swan is another wonderful club, although it's in the dodgier end of town. They often have insane rigs, and a lovely trippy tent outside, although that might've only been there for the ninja hippies events
Motion is about a 3 minute walk from temple meads station too, place gets transformed from a skate park to a fantastic club on various nights. All 3 of these places boast lovely opening licenses, so they're often open late as fuck. Most events finish at 6-8am there, and I spent a full 36 hours at the black swan once for a psytrance halloween event, although they turned the music off about 7am until the late afternoon.
I don't live in bristol but go there regularly for sweaty nights out

Played at a few venues in Brizzle. Would have to say Timbuk 2 is pretty shit tho - not a fav of mine as the acoustics are terrible. Apart from that I love the place tho.

i moved from central london to bristol (girlfriend - under the thumb much?) with a certain amount of apprehension coz obviously i was holed up in a london frame of mind - ie. anything outside the M25 is garbage.
Bristol has loads of the good bits of london, and they're all walking distance. i can't recommend it enough. though i do have to say that now ive been here about 5 or 6 years.... and thinking on a trip back to the big smoke. (its only taken me this long to convince the bird)
i live in montpelier now. mad props for that as an area to live - got a buzz about it, not far from st werburgh's if you wanna chill in a cool pub but also not far from town/clifton if you want to pretend you're richer than you are....
two clubs id say - the croft on cheltenham road (in stokes croft VERY near montpelier) coz that gives you your personal vibes, not expensive, good sound system (now they've got the new one), bit grimey but fresh tunes on there all the time. Then another night in Motion out by temple meads, big fuckin club, big nights big DJs and lots of respect from the press... gives you both sides of the argument....
one negative about bristol - it turns you from a respectable, sociable and polite gentleman (how i used to be) into a bearded, west-country talking cider chugging monster (how i am now)

Bristol is cool like everyone says, its small enough to feel friendly but big enough to loose yourself.

Thanks for all the info guys, will defo come in handy.
Also, what are the taxis like? Are there any outside these clubs or would I be walking back to where I'm staying?
For example, Motion looks a bit out of the way.

its eaier to get a taxi home than it is to get into town, unless its new years eve lol
you can stumble out of a pub/club and into a taxi within a few minutes regularly!
