I like Audacity it's free and easy to use without and crazy features to confuse me, I do a podcast using it about an hour long and file size 100MB but when I convert to MP3 it's taking like 6-8 hours which I know is wrong coz it didn't used to anybody got any ideas, maybe even other software for a PC on a similar tip, I have Acid but have never installed it as it looks so complicated

what spec is your pc?
when i used soundforge on my old desktop is took an age to save edits, export etc.
i'm running a laptop with 1.5 gig ram and a 2 gig processer now, and its less than 15 minutes for an mp3 export.

Audacity is pretty slow at encoding/decoding. I've noticed it takes double-triple the amount of time it takes Sound Forge on my studio system, which is pretty beastly itself. Take the wav file and try something like
Razorlame +
latest LAME encoder. Both free of course, and very good.

well i've downloaded the latest version of Audacity installed it with LAME and still it's saying 6 hours to convert to MP3
maybe it's the size of the file I'm trying to compress it's 1.3G am I doing something wrong or does that sound right for a hour long aup data folder?

i just checked the data files I have for an hour long mix in june and that is 1.42 gig, so I don't think the size should be an issue.

are you bouncing the mp3 down to the same drive as the original, and are the files all located on a local drive?

the aup file is on the C drive and I'm saving the mp3 to that drive but some of the original source files of on another external drive

it might be worth copying the source files to the local drive perhaps.

This may have something to do with temp files on ur computer. I think converting audio can build some kind of memory on ur PC and when that gets maxed it will take forever to render audio.

Problem solved it was due to source files being on an external hard drive so I now have to put all tracks into a folder on the C drive once it's mixed and saved I export it to MP3 took 15 mins then delete the tracks from my C drive.
thx all for the help
